Only Love Is Gonna Conquer The World!!

Cheryl Gipson, Denver Moore, Leveta Klinnert When a friend suggested the book to me, I ordered it immediately. I had expressed my concern in feeling that we, as Christians, were not caring for one another the way the New Testament instructs us to. “You have got to read, ‘The Same Kind Of Different As Me, ‘” he said. I did. Written by Ron Hall and Denver Moore with Lynn Vincent, it is (quoted from the cover of the book) the story of a modern-day slave, an international art dealer, and the unlikely woman who bound them together. I was so touched by the story that I decided I wanted to meet Denver Moore. Through a series of phone calls and emails, I found myself with an appointment this past month to sit down at a table with the man whose story had fascinated me. The meeting took place at the Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County at 1321 E. Lancaster Street in Ft. Worth, Texas. This was the mission where Denver, homeless at the time, first met Deborah and Ron Hall. While we waited for Denver to arrive, we were introduce to the UGM’s President/CEO, Don Shisler and Lannie Boyd, Volunteer Coordinator.

They gave us a tour of the mission and shared the history and vision of UGM. When Denver arrived we all went into a conference room and he soon began to share his thoughts and wisdom. “We got to go into the highways and byways, where they are, the streets and missions and compel them to come in.” he said. “When people come to this mission, they are able to get spiritual help while here and they ain’t got to have nothing. These are God’s people in this mission. Special people do jobs like this. God’s people provide it all” I liked Denver instantly and I knew he was right. A humble man with years of experience on the street is now a changed man and it is evident that he loves to talk about the Lord. “Most want God to serve them and tell God what to do. Why send God where you can go?” he said. “You go, Christ in you is the hope of glory! We stands in the shoes of Christ, serving, not judging. You come as a friend and not a boss man.” Then Denver said something that is the heart of this “Good News” publication. “Love is the only thing that’s gonna conquer the world.” Referring to Don Shisler, Denver made it clear that Don knew when Denver arrived at the mission he had to change and Denver stressed the fact that Don did not judge him. “There is beauty in being a Christian,” he said. “My uncle was the only one in the family that could read. Him and my Auntie raised us. I would lay between them until I got sleepy and he would read the bible to me. I loved to hear about King Solomon cause he had all the money in the world.” The sound of His laughter was refreshing as Denver pondered the memory. “Sickness does not come from God,” Denver said. “ Every morning you wake up, you look for a miracle.” Denver ended our visit with a big chuckle Cont’d on pg 6

Cheryl’s Corner By Cheryl Gipson

Love is the only evidence in our lives that will convince someone we are a Christian...what we do will speak volumes over what we say! Words not backed by actions quickly dissipate and are soon forgotten. Actions will leave an imprint on the heart that will last a lifetime. Just look at Jesus! He proved His love and left no room for doubt.

The Simplicity of Jesus…. Love is the foundation of Christianity. God loved the world so much that He sent Jesus to pay for our sins and bring us back into fellowship with Him. It is in the power of His irresistible love that we see the value God has placed upon you and me. It is simply a love story in which the God of Creation loved His priceless children so much that He paid the ultimate ransom. It is an amazing fact that Jesus rescued you and me from eternal separation from our loving Father. People wonder “if” God will heal them or answer their prayers. The simple answer is….He already has. At the cross, the issue was settled and we were redeemed and brought back into the family of God. All one has to do is repent and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is not a complicated matter at all. It is a relationship. In Matthew, Chapter 8 and verse 16 we read that He cast out spirits with a word and healed all that were sick. The last part of verse 17 says that Jesus took our infirmities and bore all our sicknesses. He was our substitute and the reason was simply, love. He loves us. There is nothing hard to understand about love and the fact that Jesus came to set the captive free...because of love. When I was about twelve years old, I went to church camp. The day I returned home I was not the same. Jesus had tugged on my heart at the end of a service one evening and I responded. I did not understand all there was to know but the joy that filled my being was indescribable. I was filled to the brim and running over with happiness. Something had changed my life. It was Jesus. It would be many years into the future before I understood the magnitude of the love that bought me back and set me free. I heard the word, “love” many times and could quote John 3:16 word for word. However, the thing I did not understand until I found myself filled with heartache and pain is “that He really loves me.” I had to come back to Him as a child again and find the simplicity of Je-

sus. He was love. He cared for me so much that if I had been the only one who needed salvation, He would have paid the debt. Who can resist love? Love is the one thing people would give their entire fortunes to receive. Simply love. At the last supper, Jesus washed the feet of the disciples. He was the King of kings but He became a servant. He showed us what love is. For years I searched for the “deep” things of God. Then one day, the Lord revealed to me that there is nothing “deeper” in His Word than love for one another. I was blown away by the simplicity of the greatest commandment….love...simply love for Him and for one another. There is nothing deeper and this thing called love, we humans have yet to understand. We love when it is easy but if it requires laying down our agenda to help someone else, most of the time we tend to fail the test. What changed my life and my understanding of the gospel (good news) was the day that the Lord whispered into my spirit these words….”I feel the same way about you that you feel about your children.” I have never been the same in how I see my relationship with Him. He also impressed on me that I receive my ability to love and cherish my children from Him...the Father..the #1 parent. How simple the truth can be. When the woman came to Jesus who had been caught in adultery, He loved her and He forgave her….she was to go and sin no more. She left there knowing that her life had changed because she was forgiven and her slate was wiped clean. She knew in that moment what love really was. Love is life changing. When I began to ask God for the truth of how things really worked in the kingdom of God, I was surprised at the simple answers I received from Him. I was so relieved to discover that there were no formulas and no certain amount of scriptures I had to quote daily to find myself in fellowship with Him or to have confidence that He would meet all my needs. There were two things He spoke to me which melted my heart and left me completely and passionately in love with Him. He said, “I will take care of you just because I love you.” And then He said, “Stop trying to get me to do things for you that I have already done.” I knew at that moment all I had to do was take His Word as mine and “know” that I already had His promises to me and there was nothing I had to plead and beg for. My life has not been the same since that day. The simplicity of that experience and the weeks that followed amazed me. Peace was my companion and I rested in the knowledge that my Father had nothing but good things for me as I do for my children. It was so simple that I had overlooked the uncomplicated truth most of my Christian life. When we know that we are loved deeply and passionately by our Father, we are then free to love others without walls and guardrails. I can only give away what I possess. The simplicity of Jesus and His love is a gift to the world. I have seen people wounded by the actions of Christians who withdrew their fellowship and love from families who left their church and

moved to another city where they attended a new church. These things are not even a remote reflection of the goodness of God and the love that Jesus commanded us to have for one another. Division is not in the Master design for the family of God. We have all been forgiven much and each of us who are born again carry the Spirit of God within us. We are to be One with Him no matter what church we attend. We are brothers and sisters in Christ and we are to love one another as He has loved us. That is the simplicity of the gospel. We repent and believe and we are born again into the family of God. It is not to be a family of divisions but simply a family who loves, cherishes, cares for and takes care of one another. We are not to control and manipulate each other’s lives but we are free to make choices as the Lord leads. We are to act like Jesus and give ourselves away all wrapped up in His love. That is the simplicity of Jesus!

Bit O’ Humor A friend was in front of mine was coming out of church one day, and the preacher was standing at the door as he always is to shake hands. He

noticed he had already used a half gallon. He didn't want to run back in town and being the creative person that he was, he found a gallon of thinner in the shed out back, and began to thin his paint. It worked out great. He finished the remaining three sides with that last half gallon of paint. That night, it rained: it rained hard. The next morning when he stepped outside of the parsonage to admire his work, he saw that the first side was looking great, but that the paint on the other three sides had washed away. The pastor looked up in sky in anguish and cried out, "What shall I do?" A voice came back from the heavens saying, "Repaint, and thin no more!

Andrew Wommack Ministries The War Is Over By Andrew Wommack Did you know that most Christians still believe their relationship with God is dependent on their performance? They believe answered prayers and God’s blessing in their lives are in direct proportion to their holiness and ability to overcome sin. If they attend church, pay their tithes, read their Bibles, and control their flesh, they have somehow earned the blessing of God. That may sound reasonable at first, but that line of thinking will destroy your confidence in God and couldn’t be further from the truth. The truth is, sin isn’t even an issue with God. That may seem like a radical statement, but it is exactly what the Word teaches. Romans 3:4 says, “Yea, let God be true, but every man a liar.” When Jesus came on the scene, one of the first things He had to do was counter all the religious traditions and doctrines of His day. Paul recognized the same problem. He said in Romans 10:2-3, “For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.” Just because people are zealous or religious does not mean what they believe is correct. One of the most misunderstood doctrines in the Bible is what really happened when Jesus came to earth, fulfilled the Law, and was sacrificed for our sins. When He said in John 19:30 “It is finished,” everything changed. Jesus forever changed the way God relates to mankind. Sure, there are scriptural examples of God’s catastrophic judgment on sin. But God’s greatest act of judgment was when He placed His entire wrath upon Jesus for our sins. This forever satisfied God’s wrath. Since that time, God hasn’t been judging our sins (2 Cor. 5:19). God’s not angry with us; He’s not even in a bad mood. Look at the angels’ joy at the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Luke 2:13-14 says, “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” This scripture is very familiar to many, yet there is a lot of misunderstanding about what it’s saying. Some translations say they were proclaiming “good will among men” or “peace to men of good will.”

Basically, this passage has been interpreted that Jesus was bringing peace on earth among people. But that’s not why these angels were praising God. If that interpretation were true, then Jesus’ own words in Matthew 10:34-36 would contradict this. He said, “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.” Jesus Himself said He was not sent to bring peace on the earth among people. The peace that the angels were praising God for (Luke 2:13-14) was peace BETWEEN God and man. They were announcing the end of God’s war on sin. Peace now reigns between God and man. Prior to Jesus’ coming, God’s wrath was against man for his sins. It wasn’t total wrath. Even in the Old Testament, we see God’s mercy and grace. Yet the Old Testament Law was a ministry of wrath (Rom. 4:15; 2 Cor. 3:7, and 9), and man’s sins were held against him. But when Jesus came, God quit holding man’s sins against him. This is exactly what 2 Corinthians 5:19 and 21 say, “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation…For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” The word “reconciliation” is talking about making peace. God was no longer holding us accountable. Instead, He imputed our sins to Jesus, making Jesus accountable for our sins. Jesus became what we were so we could become what He was—the righteousness of God. Jesus was like a lightning rod that drew all the judgment of God unto Himself. He not only bore our sins; He actually became sin (2 Cor. 5:21). Jesus said in John 12:27-32: “Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. Jesus answered and said, This voice came

not because of me, but for your sakes. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” Many have thought John 12:32 means that if God is properly glorified in our preaching, then He will draw all people to Himself. But that is not what this scripture is saying. If you look in the King James Version, notice that the word “men” in verse 32 is italicized. That means it wasn’t in the original language. The translators put this word in italics to let people know this was their addition, but it wasn’t a part of the text. If you take this verse in context, I believe the Lord was saying that He would draw all JUDGMENT to Himself. Jesus, like a lightning rod, attracted all of God’s judgment for all of mankind’s sins for all time unto Himself. All the murder, all the perversion, every vile and rotten sin imaginable, all sickness, and all disease ever known to mankind actually entered into His physical human body. Isaiah 52:14 talks about the crucifixion of Jesus and says that He was marred more than any man, to the point that He was unrecognizable as a human being. That could not have happened just from physical beatings, especially since the Word says that not a single bone was broken in His body (Ps. 34:20 with John 19:36). I believe His body was completely disfigured from cancers, tumors, diseases, deformities, and anything else that human beings have ever suffered. Jesus didn’t ask for the cup to be taken from Him just because of the physical pain He would suffer, but because He did not want to become sin. He hated becoming what He came to redeem us from. And the worst of all Jesus’ sufferings was total rejection from His Father. Matthew 27:46 says, “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” God the Father forsook Jesus so that you and I would never be forsaken. All that we would have suffered through billions of years in eternity—the grief, the pain, and worst of all, the complete separation from the presence of God—Jesus experienced. And He experienced all of this for us. The judgment was made and the sentence carried out. The price was paid in full, once for all. When we say God is still judging us for our sins as individuals or corporately as a nation, we are saying that the price Jesus paid wasn’t enough. Therefore, a judgment must again be made and a sentence passed. That would be “double jeopardy,” and that is not what the Bible teaches. Some of you may not like this, but it’s true. Sin isn’t a problem with God anymore. It’s the church that has made it a major deal. Neither past, present, nor future sins can separate us from God. The only people who will go to hell Cont’d on pg 10

church and then we headed to the kitchen. Every Sunday the “big blue bus” runs a route into the area where these precious homeless folks are and offers them a ride to church. After the service, they are blessed with a hot meal before returning to the streets. It was my privilege to meet “Jeff” a homeless man whose picture I had viewed the week before. He had given his life to Jesus through the ministry of this group of people who care so much. I met Janie, the director of the homeless outreach and several others who are involved along with two men who are no longer on the streets. There is nothing that touches my heart more than the homeless people who day after day need to know that Jesus loves them as much as anyone. It is Christians like these from Highpoint Church who are making a difference as they become “ Jesus with skin on em” to the people without a home who so desperately need to know that they are loved. This ministry hits the streets every first and third Saturday to love like Jesus loves, unconditionally and with actions to bring deliverance and peace.

My recent trip to Ft. Worth brought me to the Sunday Morning Services in which the Spirit of God moved in a sweet and wonderful way. I became aware of the ministry of this church to the homeless through my Facebook account when I began to see pictures like those here on a regular basis. Donnie and Bear are both friends on Facebook and every time I saw new images posted, my heart would just melt at the evidence of the love in the hearts of these men and women who are “the arms of Jesus to the homeless.” I was especially moved when I saw Donnie’s daughter reaching out alongside her dad to pray for those so hungry to be loved and cared for. I decided I wanted to get a glimpse in person of what they are doing on the streets of Ft. Worth to bring the gospel of “good News” to desperate men and women who have no place to call home. Sunday morning after the service, Donnie introduced me to several different people in the

Cont’d from pg 8….Andrew Wommack...The War Is Over are those who have spurned and rejected the greatest sacrifice that has ever been made. In heaven, we won’t answer for our individual sins; Jesus already has. We will answer for our acceptance or rejection of Jesus. You might now be thinking, You’re just giving people a license to sin. Well, it seems to me that people are doing a pretty good job of that without a license. What I’m saying will not free you to sin; it will free you from the condemnation and the guilt that comes when you do sin. To continue in sin is just stupid. You’ll be opening the door for Satan to have an inroad into your life (Rom. 6:16). If you sin, you will suffer the natural consequences of it, but it will not be because of the judgment of God. After reading this, I am sure many questions have come to your mind. This subject counters so much of what is being taught in the church today that you need to hear the rest of the message. I teach on this extensively in my series The War Is Over. Order it or go to our website and download the entire message in MP3 format. It will change your life. Greatest Moments From Yesterday By Cheryl Stegall Gipson

A Blast into the Past!!! Several years ago I made a trip to Columbus, Texas to see my daughter. I returned by traveling west of Fort Worth to pick up several cases of the most wonderful scented candles which I sold at wholesale prices by the case.

Middle Of No Where Quick Stop Hers

Somewhere south of Paducah, TX. I found myself in a stretch of land that looked like maybe I had driven into the past. The wind was blowing like a mini hurricane and red dirt swirled upward from the ground like small tornadoes dancing across the vast pasture land. There was no one in sight. Miles of lonely road loomed endlessly before me. Rarely did I see another vehicle enjoying the same scenic route. Being a person who gets sleepy while driving, I always indulge in sunflower seeds to stay awake. That of course requires water, coke, etc. In turn that calls for frequent “rest stops.” Anxiously anticipating the next “town,” my eyes searched the horizon for the sign of a water tower that would indicate civilization. There were none! Just, wind, dirt, and unending miles of two-lane highway. Suddenly around the curve, I found myself approaching what appeared to be an inhabited building in an old storefront. No place to eat, but at least I could have a “rest stop.” I climbed out of the car and went inside where two teenagers were filling coke cups. There was a nice lady at the counter where they stopped to pay for the drinks.

I smiled and inquired as to where the bathroom was and she pointed to the back of the store. “They are out back,” she said. This concerned me as I remembered my Grandma’s bathroom “out back.” That was not exactly what I had hoped for but I undoubtedly had no choice in my situation! I quickly recalled the spiders from those days along with the heat and the outdated catalogues. Anyway I proceeded to walk the distance around the side of the store to the back of the building. Then I saw “them!” They weren’t actually wood with a half moon on the door so it appeared that it possibly could work. As I stepped inside I was thankful to find that the fixtures were modern! It reminded me of an old Clint Eastwood movie where just the man, the dusty prairie, and a seemingly deserted town were all there was on the face of the earth. The music was all that was missing! I guess I am spoiled! Debating whether to proceed with caution or leave, I made a decision to stay, so I turned to close the door. It was gone!! There I was, me...the fixtures….the dirt...and an open doorway facing the two-lane road I had just left. How on earth was a lady suppose to powder her nose in a place like this! I had to chuckle and reconsider. Being in such a deserted little spot, I decided to try the room next door marked HIS.

There was a door on that one! I could powder my nose, be gone, the hens could lay a few eggs, and the cows come home before anyone saw me in the wrong “outhouse.” I slowly stepped inside the door. This could work! At least there was a door! Or so I thought until I turned to shut it and the thing fell off the hinges!! I busted out laughing! Where in the Sam Hill was I? Did the Lord even know where this place was? I did manage to complete my task without any further events or interruptions. Back inside the store I told the clerk my story. She then informed me that if I broke down “out there” there would be no one to call for help. I believed her! Guess that is why the doors were off, there was no one around to fix them!! If you ever travel that direction, I suggest you prepare for a blast into the past. It sure reminded me of long ago, in another world, maybe near the same place. In spite of it all, I really thought the little place had a quaint type of western charm. It worked for me but I don’t suggest it to ladies of prestige and refinery. It just ain’t that comfortable so most folks might prefer to stick to the Interstate. Me? Well, someday, I just may go back again and take a hammer and some hinges. After all the scripture says, “whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might!” I think I just “might!” It was a really great moment that took me back to yesterday! Life is an adventure for sure!!

Out Of The Mouth Of A 7 Year Old Entrepreneur “From K to Mimi”

My granddaughter recently informed that she is going to build a robot. I wanted to be sure that all of you would be in the know that this awesome invention is on the way! “My robot will do everything for you that you can imagine,” she said. “It will make the bed and drive for you. All you have to do is work the pedals! It will clean your house, even the kid’s rooms. It will clean the dog poop and the litter box.” “Will it cook?” I asked. “It does cook,” she answered emphatically, “Everything! It will do laundry and wash your clothes. It does everything!” She repeated it again, twice, “Everything! Everythiiiiiiing! “When do you think it will be ready,” I asked. “When I am grown-up.” she replied. “So, it will not be available right away?” “No,” she said. “What will it cost,” I asked. “For my family, zero dollars. For everyone else, 340 bucks!” “I thought you told me earlier they would only be one dollar each,” I said. “Yep! I changed my mind!” She wrapped up our interview with that final statement. I really think Art Linkletter would have loved this kid!

Talkin’ Texan By Joe Kent Roberts Grandpa and the Snakes Ever since I was a young boy, all my aunts, uncles, and relatives said to never mention “snakes” around Grandpa. Yet when I would ask them why, they would never give me an answer— they would just say, “Don’t mention snakes.” Naturally, I was curious after this response, and decided that someday I would ask him. The summer I was fourteen, Grandpa and I were putting up a new fence on the ranch, and it was truly a thing of beauty. I would dig the posthole and Grandpa would set the post and the barbed wire. The new fence was just as straight and on line as it could be. Grandpa did great work. Grandma would prepare our lunch every day that we would take to the ranch. My favorite was her fried seven steak. I bought some seven steak at the store a few months ago and fried it up, not quite as good as Grandma’s, but it sure brought back some great memories. On this particular day, Grandma had prepared spaghetti and meatballs for our lunch. This was very unusual because Grandpa was pretty much a steak-and-potatoes man. We would take our lunch out of the hot Texas sun and into the shed that Grandpa had built at the edge of the corral. The shed was about eight feet square, and Grandpa had built a little dropdown table that came out from the wall of the shed. Grandpa was on the other side of the table against the wall, and I was at the table next to the open doorway (fortunately, or I would not be relating this story today). I was not aware that Grandma had prepared spaghetti, and when Grandpa uncovered the casserole dish, I was not expecting this big bowl of spaghetti. I looked at the spaghetti and thought “Well, it’s pretty well now or never.” “Gee, Grandpa, this looks just like a big bunch of snakes,” I said. Holy moly, did the fur fly! Grandpa let out with a shout as I was running out the door. He had slammed up the table to get at me and was chasing me out through the corral, down the fence, and through the brush and the trees. I really didn’t know he could run that fast. He must have chased me for ten minutes or longer through the ranch. After a bit, we both sat down on a fence post and Grandpa explained to me that as a teenager on the ranch he had fallen into a rattlesnake pit and that ever since he had been deathly afraid of snakes. I don’t like rattlesnakes either and was happy to find that the snake pit was no longer there. I still don’t know why my aunts and uncles never explained this to me. It sure would have saved Grandpa and me a lot of running.

We’d drove the herd hard that day, then stopped to rest the night. Supper was all finished up and the campfire gave us light. We were drinkin’ cookies coffee, when He came walkin’ in; His eyes could look right thru you, He was tall and sorta thin. His voice seemed right familiar, as He sat with us a spell, Somethin’ shore was different, but jist what I couldn’t tell. He warned us ‘bout the river we was to cross that very week, Said the thing was runnin’ over, rains had filled her to her peak. As quick as He had come around, He walked into the night And no one heard Him ride away, but somethin’ shore felt right. The night was strangely peaceful, stars were shinin’ out real bright; I felt the stranger watchin’ as I lay awake that night. The day we reached that river, the water had gone down, And as we slowly moved the herd across, my heart began to pound. Standing down the river I saw the Man again, The Stranger waved us on and I shouted to the men. But no one else had seen Him then my mind went racin’ back When I almost died with fever in that miner’s old line shack.

Next mornin’ I was better, the fever was all gone, I thot I”d dreamed the Stranger but I know now that I was wrong. My prayers had shore been answered and my life was spared again, Cause God had sent His angel who was watchin’ round the bend.
