CARTESIAN PRISM

The Cartesian Prism’s construct assumes the optical properties of the prism that reestablishes all the elements, lines, surfaces, and spaces organized on its orthogonal right-angle system. It is almost like a visual game of internal geometric correspondences with related spaces producing phenomenal transparency.

CARTESIAN PRISM ACTIVATED

The Cartesian Prism Activated is when a force is introduced to the composite construct such that the composition becomes informed and deformed as a reaction to the force added. The force is treated as an activated agent that initiates an evolution to the original cartesian prism. This original prism absorbed this new force and new spaces emerged.

ACTION SPACE

This Action Space project is the notion of a spatial sequence for a singular client. Diana Nyad is a professional long-distance swimmer and activist for human rights, and within her sequence of spaces she has an outdoor communal gathering space on the stairs, a long, curved lap pool, and a private office space. The movement among these spaces is an experience involving swimming through the pool from point A of the staircase, to point B of the office. The primary element the project revolves around is a structured wall, which is highlighted in magenta, which within the pool is seen as malleable and curved. 9

These drawings and model were the result of un-building the famous E1027 by Eileen Gray. They decipher the spatial narratives and identify the form, sequence, program, structure, and site that exist within the subject. E1027 is a modernist villa located in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France. Gray also designed furniture for her project under the principle that “Furniture without architecture collapses, architecture without furniture is just a void. 14

GROUND CONTROL

The Ground Control premise was to inherit a relationship between figure and the field, as this relationship contains multiple spatial and formal conditions. This space is for a performance artist couple with interior and exterior stages for them to present their work. The concept that inspired the movements among the site was the mobius strip, as half is highlighted in yellow, with the angled and turned ramps moving up and down the site between the public and private spaces. The land is located in the Finger Lakes district of Upstate New York, and it slopes down from a main road to the water and is surrounded by a wooded area.
