merald Bay State Park is a state park of California, USA, preserving Lake Tahoe’s Emerald Bay, a National Natural Landmark.Park features include Eagle Falls and Vikingsholm, a 38-room mansion that is considered one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the United States. The architect was Leonard Palme, who was hired by his aunt Laura Knight to design and build Vikingsholm. The park contains the only island in Lake Tahoe, Fannette Island. The park is accessible by California State Route 89 near the southwest shore of the lake. Emerald Bay is one of Lake Tahoe’s most photographed and popular locations. In 1969 Emerald Bay was recognized as a National Natural Landmark by the federal Department of the Interior. In 1994 California State Parks included the surrounding water of the bay as a part of the park, making Emerald Bay one of the first underwater parks of its type in the state, protecting the various wrecks and other items on the bay’s bottom. Other popular activities include parasailing, jet ski rentals and eco-friendly paddle sport rentals. Kayaking and stand up paddle boards have also become very popular. Boating is a primary activity in Tahoe in the summer. There are many boating events, such as sailboat racing, guided cruises, and more. The lake is home to one of the most prestigious boat shows in the country held every August.

Perhaps the most iconic location in Lake Tahoe, Emerald bay is popular due to its several beaches, campgrounds, watersports and historical structures. The 38 room Vikingsholm mansion and island tea house are the primary attractions of this area.
One of the most popular hikes in the Tahoe area, Mt. Tallac can be identified by the distict cross shape created by the year round snow on its northeastern face. Although strenuous, hikers who summit the peak are rewarded with breathtaking views of the entire basin.
Half a dozen large casinos start inches away from the California border and create the â€œdowntownâ€? area of Lake Tahoe. Visitors can enjoy the views from the Heavenly gondola, attend one of many nightly shows or party at several nightclubs and bars.
The smaller of the two state borders on the Tahoe coast is also home to several casinos. It is better known for its history with infamous gangsters in the early 20th century and the unconfirmed legends of concrete shoed bodies thrown into the lake.
