iconic elephant

objective this project was presented to us as a challenge to design an animal logo that differed from its previous and perhaps trite representations. the elephant was particularily difficult because it has been a center of religion and art for thousands of years. in order to escape earlier reditions of the elephant, i chose to simplify the elephant graphically. using a silhouette helped me isolate the most recognizable characteristics of the elephant and display them in a clean way. when it came to putting my logo into an environment, i wanted to expand beyond the elephant’s natural habitat. i chose to place it in a urban landscape to represent the dying elephant population due to the greedy hand of man.

i placed my logo in an urban setting to provide contrast between wild life and human construction in the poster.

sketch

after researching the elephant, i made sketches that focused on it’s unique characteristics and religious meanings.

when i started to put my sketches into the computer i realized that a more graphic representation would be best.

since the ear is one of the signature features of the elephant, i included it in my final logo to make it more recognizable.

in the end, i created a poster with text that complimented the photo and leads the viewer around the design.

since the ear is one of the signature features of the elephant, i included it in my final logo to make it more recognizable.

conclude from brainstorming about an animal with a mind map to creating a poster with an original icon, this project was a journey that taught me many things about the design process. designing a logotaught me to have a clear objective when working on a project. the editing process really helped me find a concept and perfect it. this project also helped me to simplify my ideas while still keeping the most important elements. this is especially helpful when creating logos because the design has to be clear & concise in order to be effective. the most helpful thing in designing my animal icon was the feedback from my classmates. i know now to trust others’ opinions and to take a step back to see things more critically.
