Welcome to ECFE Thank you for exploring our catalog to learn about the programs and services PLSAS offers to hundreds of lifelong learners in our district.

As you take classes this school year, you will notice many positive changes to our buildings. This is thanks to voter approval of PLSAS’ two school funding requests in 2017. Here are just a few of the construction highlights you will see this fall: • Bridges Area Learning Center will open on the Twin Oaks campus • Redtail Ridge and Jeffers Pond are opening new kindergarten classrooms • WestWood and Edgewood are now connected by a shared kitchen and cafeteria • Both middle schools will have additional classroom and cafeteria space as well as a renovated auditorium at Twin Oaks Still to come, classroom additions are being constructed at Prior Lake High School along with increased parking and a new space for Industrial Technology classes. PLHS will continue construction with additional classrooms, a new north entrance, kitchen and cafeteria expansion and a four-court activity center. This summer we broke ground on Hamilton Ridge Elementary. We are looking forward to a grand opening in the fall of 2020. We are grateful to our community for making this investment to help ensure all learners have the spaces, staff and materials they need to succeed. Be well, Teri Staloch, Ed. D. Superintendent Dear Early Learning Families, We are thrilled to invite you to our 2019-2020 ECFE programming! Our theme this year is: BEE Awesome! Come BEE awesome with us as we explore school readiness for families and children through strong social emotional learning and development. Research shows family engagement in school supports positive educational and developmental outcomes. ECFE lays the foundation for the family-school relationship, creates opportunities to build your network of support, and starts your little learners on a positive educational journey. Interested to learn more? Want to be a part of the class planning process? Join our fabulous family Early Learning Advisory Council (ELAC)! This group meets 4-6 times per year, gets a behind the scenes look at early learning and is the voice for families in our program. Meetings dates for 2019-2020 are Monday evenings: 9/9, 11/11, 12/16, 2/10 and 4/13, with a tentative meeting 5/11 if needed, to make-up a snow day cancellation or to get together for fun as a group. For information, email Edgewood.AdvisoryCouncil@gmail. com and follow them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EdgewoodCouncil/. We can’t wait to partner with you this year and hope to see you soon! All the best, Becca

PRESCHOOLERS

Preschool Express (3 - 5 years) Separating

If family circumstances have prevented your child from participating in a traditional preschool experience, this unique evening class might be just right for you. Specifically designed for children ages 3 to 5, Preschool Express provides a year-long opportunity for children to practice school readiness skills and for the adults in their lives to prepare for the transition to kindergarten. We’ll take a gentle approach to separation, with time for parent-child interaction in the fall and winter, and tapering off to independent preschool experience in the spring. All the while, we’ll be working on building self-confidence in the classroom setting, pre-literacy and emerging math and science knowledge, social and emotional competence and speech and language development.

I’m so thankful for the evening Preschool Express offering! As a family with two working parents, the traditional preschool options just didn’t work for our family. Preschool Express was a fantastic way to expose our daughter to a formal school setting in preparation for kindergarten next year while fitting our calendar. Even with the class only meeting weekly, she blossomed and grew socially throughout the year. Thank you for offering this! ~ Shannon 10

Circle of Friends Preschool offers classes for children 3, 4 and 5 years old. Children must be 3 years old and toilet trained by September 1 to participate. Our classes range from 2 to 5 days a week, and include both half-day and full-day options. Both options provide the same curriculum outcomes and include environmental education in outdoor classroom spaces.

Curriculum

Our preschool curriculum focuses on social, emotional, cognitive, physical and creative development with strong emphasis on pre-math and pre-literacy skills. It is aligned with Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools’ elementary curriculum standards, and state and national early childhood standards, which ensures a strong start in school for all children.
