U N IVE RSIT Y OF WATERLOO S LC / PAC A DDI T I O N 200 University Avenue West | Waterloo, ON, Canada CS&P Architects | Group Project February 2019 (Expected Completion) AutoCAD | Construction Documents | Tender & Addendums | Construction The largest project I’ve worked on to date is the Student Life Centre and Physical Activities Complex addition to the University of Waterloo. Taking what I learned from previous projects, I joined the team slightly after schematic design and worked through Design Development and Construction Documents. In this project, I acted as Job Captain below the Project Architect managing both the team at CS&P as well as our consultants. This included assembling the Architectural set of drawings as well as reviewing our consultants’ drawings to ensure coordination throughout the project. After tender and the addendum phase of the project, I produced the Issued For Construction drawings for the convenience of the Contractor and Owner. Since then, I attend the bi-weekly site meetings at the University of Waterloo to review the progress of the project and to perform site reviews to be included in monthly Field Review Reports. My experience also includes responding to Request For Information, issuing Site Instructions, Change Notices, and Change Orders, preparing Certificate For Payments, reviewing Shop Drawings, and continuous coordination with the Consultants, Owner, and Contractor to ensure the project moves forward.

V IC TO RIA ROAD RECREATI O N C E NTR E 151 Victoria Road North | Guelph, ON, Canada CS&P Architects | Group Project April 2017 AutoCAD | Construction Documents | Tender & Addendums | Construction Upon joining CS&P Architects, the first project I worked on was Victoria Road Recreation Centre located in Guelph, Ontario. This was a good platform to apply the knowledge I learned in school and develop construction drawings and details with functionality. With my background in building science, it really helped the team for me to provide input while we worked out the details to be issued for tender. During the construction documentation phase of the project, I drafted most of the details from iterations and development with coworkers, each of us bringing our knowledge and expertises. I also produced Architectural Drawings including millwork packages, curtain wall and screens, and interior elevations. The most rewarding aspect of this project was being able to attend the opening ceremony in April 2017 with the Principal Architect and Project Architect knowing our work has been built and now used by a community of families. It is great knowing that what we have done has now marked its presence and is beneficial to people all around.

93 BIRCHMOUNT ROAD

Birchmount Community Centre is the second project I worked on at CS&P Architects located at the intersection of Birchmount Road and Kingston Road. The project consists of a double gym addition, a new multipurpose room equipped with a kitchenette, new change rooms, and office space for the staff. The design principle was to create a new entrance that visually connected all the programs inside the community centre, both new and existing. My role in this project started with creating the construction documents including both large scale drawings and details. Further into the project, I received the responsibility of coordinating with our subconsultants including Civil, Landscape, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical. Using experience from the previous project, I helped manage the tender and addendum process, and continued on throughout the construction stage acting as Construction Admin. From here, I learned how to process Site Instructions, Change Notices and Orders, Certificate For Payments, and attended bi-weekly site meetings with the Owner and Contractor.

P ROVE NA N CE L ANE Laneway between Palmerston Blvd. & Markham St. | Toronto, ON, Canada U.S. DOE Race To Zero Design Competition | Group Project April 2015 Revit | Photoshop | Illustrator Provenance Lane is a full redevelopment of a laneway in Toronto’s vibrant Little Italy neighbourhood. Toronto’s laneways are a holdover, originally built in the nineteenth century to minimize traffic, accommodate stables, and circulate goods and services. These functions have largely disappeared and these spaces now sit underutilized, presenting an opportunity for renewal and intensification. Provenance stands for a place of origin or the beginning of something’s existence and Provenance Lane marks the inception of wide-spread laneway development across Toronto. Homes are designed with a focus on occupant comfort and energy efficiency and demonstrate that high quality development can be integrated into the fabric of the surrounding city at a competitive cost. The project has been developed as an integrated solution tailored to the climate, neighbourhood, and occupants. A high efficiency building envelope and mechanical system result in an 80% reduction in energy use compared to the average Ontario home. With the inclusion of PV, the house is energy positive, producing more electricity than it consumes.

RYE RSO N MAS TERS RES ID E NC E 365 Church Street | Toronto, ON, Canada ASC401 2nd Year Design Studio | Individual Project April 2013 AutoCAD | Rhinoceros | V-Ray | Photoshop | Illustrator Serving as the new department of Ryerson University’s Centre for Food Security on the first two levels, the tower above provides residency for graduate students allowing them affordable and a near campus place to live. Located at 365 Church Street, it also acts as a connecting node between the Mattamy Athletic Centre at Maple Leaf Gardens and the main Ryerson campus of Kerr Hall. With living walls on the south and west facades of the building, it maximizes sunlight exposure throughout the day providing some greenery in the landscape as people walk along Church Street.

Site Plan

RYERSON’S MASTER PLAN 1) Urban Intensification Focuses on reinventing the centre of the campus and building the vertical campus, to make efficient use of Ryerson’s extremely limited land as well as the small and valuable properties on and around the university. One of the most important principles of urban intensification is providing transparency and accessibility at ground level, as well as programs that are conductive to social interaction, in order to enhance a strong sense of collegiality and community. 2) People First: Pedestrianization of the Urban Environment Creating a pedestrian-friendly campus with green open spaces, informal meeting places, bike paths, and access to public transportation. A pedestrian-oriented university core provides an environment conductive to academic excellence and vibrant student life. 3) Urban Intensification Build a commitment to design excellence for academic and student space into the evaluation of all future buildings and public spaces. It calls for the creation of inspirational learning and teaching environments that support the university’s academic plan and provide a sense of belonging to a strong, vibrant academic community.

R E VITA LIZE & URBANIZE AL L A N G A R DE NS 19 Horticulture Ave. | Toronto, ON, Canada ARC820 4th Year Architecture Studio | Individual Project April 2015 AutoCAD | Revit | Rhinoceros | V-Ray | Photoshop | Illustrator Allan Gardens has always been one of the highlights along the Jarvis corridor, inviting visitors of all ages to marvel at the beauty that can be found within and around the greenhouses. This open public park is a place of congregation to a large variety of people, from dog owners to students, surrounding residents, as well as homeless folks in the area. This proposal not only strengthens social interaction within the community but also creates a central hub where people can increase their knowledge and understanding of horticulture and the role it plays in our lives. Different programmatic functions are organized on-site, including an artist gallery and garden, a multi-purpose event space that can serve a variety of occasions such as weddings, receptions, and even a farmers market on weekends. A small cafe is situated along Jarvis allowing constant revenue to the site as well as a place for people to sit back, relax, and interact within this busy urban core of Toronto. In addition to existing greenhouses, more growing space will be allotted for research and production, adding more greenery to the park. Allan Gardens will be landscaped accordingly in order to bring a sense of renewal to this important area in the diverse city.

ALFÄBET CHAIR

ALFÄBET CHAIR ALFÄ BE T CHAIR Furniture Design ASC755 Digital Tools | Partnered Project October 2014 Rhinoceros | Vray | Photoshop | Illustrator | CNC Routing The ALFÄBET chair is a customizable chair for kids that allows them to easily assemble it themselves using only a few pieces. The chair consists of three major components: the customizable seat that ranges from all letters of the alphabet allowing them to decided which letter they want, the side pieces that hold up the seat, and the horizontal slats that connect and stabilize the chair. Though the chair was designed for a child ages 6-12, it is built sturdy enough to hold up an adult of up to 180lbs.

CL A RE NC E PARK COMMUNI T Y C E NT R E 351 Wellington Street West | Toronto, ON, Canada ASC620 3rd Year Architecture Studio | Partnered Project April 2014 Revit | AutoCAD | Rhino | Photoshop | Illustrator The Clarence Park Community Centre is located in the King and Spadina Trinity neighbourhood. This area is connected together by two existing green parks, Victoria Memorial Park and Clarence Square Park. Situated in this unique location, the surrounding area is highly focused on low-rise buildings and its connection to street activities. As a re-developing neighbourhoood, it consists of a mix of both newly built projects and heritage buildings. With its history of being in the fashion district, this site showcases a great example of diversity in the city. On the ground floor of the community centre, large columns are grouped together to imitate the feeling of large tree trunks where people can congregate along with the more public spaces such as the gymnasium, swimming pool, and cafe. The second and third floor are slightly more private with spaces such as the fitness centre, the weight room, multi-purpose rooms, and the running track. All these have an open concept with the ground floor to really create this interconnected community within the building. The top floor contains the library, study areas, and a computer lab for more quiet private activities where people can relax.

U N ITE D D ESIGN GROUP WO R KS 528 South Pudong Road | Shanghai, China UDG Shanghai | Internship June 2014 - August 2014 AutoCAD | Rhino | SketchUp | Photoshop | Illustrator | Powerpoint During my time at United Design Group, I as an intern worked on multiple projects all at the same time. Not only did this allow me to experience the working industry in the field of architecture but also improved my ability to time manage and multi-task. Working under the lead architect, Liu Pei Shuang, he directed many projects for different competitions and I participated amongst all the groups that he supervised. Each project came with its own unique background from designing a cruise terminal, to a marriage-oriented village planning, and even office villas and courtyards. My position also included various background and precedent research for the different projects in order to gain a full understanding of them as well as to put together presentations for the clients. Site analysis was also conducted with in depth research as to the multiple factors that affect design. Graphic communication was most important for us in order to properly portray our ideas and thought process. My travel experience proved to be beneficial when drawing in principles from European and North American culture.

44

大连十五库及其南广场地块改扩建项目 This project was to redesign the harbour to incorporate a new cruise terminal for the city of Dalian. Along the pier, a new commercial area would be built where the buildings would imitate old historic buildings in the area that have been demolished. This would create a sense of reminiscence and educate people of the history of the city. My role in this project was to model the historic buildings in a 3D program as well as do research on existing cruise terminals and how they function. I also created analytical diagrams to be used in the presentation to the clients, in this case the competition judges.

Site Plan

45

Site Plan

上海艾帝尔办公楼项目 This project allowed my to put my creativity to the test while still maintaining the architect’s design intent behind the layout of the site. Firstly I compiled a site analysis presentation with regards to the different factors that affect the site. These included public transportation by train, by bus, by automobiles, walking distances, and even emergency services. I also looked at surrounding buildings and infrastructure as well as their size and use in determination of the buildings that are proposed. After hand drawing the site plan for the presentation laid out to my own design, I further analyzed the reasoning behind the layout with photo references of successful precedents.

46

阜阳翰沃办公楼项目 This project focused more on the urban planning than actual buildings itself. The goal was to plan a new village that would act as a local communal area as well as a tourist attraction for wedding banquets and hotels. The commercial district incorporates retail opportunities that accomodate both the residents north of the site as well as the tourists staying at the hotels. Signature hotels are reserved for the couples hosting their wedding here as well as their honoured guests. The villa offices are designated for the workers of this facility to reside

in as well as the administrative team. My role in this project was to assist the lead architect in drawing out the site plan both by hand and digitally after he sketched out rough placements and sizes of buildings. I also created a series of analytical diagrams as well in order to present this design to the client. Lastly to complete the presentation, I gathered mass amount of precedent images in order to reference the design in a well organized slideshow.

M O UNT D ENNIS CHIL DC AR E C E NT R E 1234 Weston Road | Toronto, ON, Canada CS&P Architects | Group Project Schematic Design AutoCAD | Revit | Sketch Up | Photoshop | Illustrator Mount Dennis Childcare Centre is a City of Toronto project located at Weston and Eglinton and is to be the first net zero childcare facility. After Metrolinx bought the land where the existing childcare was located, in order to build the Eglinton LRT terminal station, a nearby lot of land was allocated for the city to rebuild a neighbourhood childcare centre. This project is a collaboration between CS&P Architects and Coolearth Architecture using mainly Revit to model the building. This allows for the ability to develop the envelope and calculate the allowable openings in order to reach passive house standards which we strive for in our design. When the plans have been laid out by the Design Architect, my role is to build the design in Revit from the iterations of plans and elevations developed and provide input for review. I’ve also created colour coded programmatic plans to be presented to the owner at meetings to discuss the requirements of schematic design.

Everyone is (a) Kid Jammed amidst the streetcar, trying desperately to get to work on time it’s hard to remember a simpler time; but, with the improved efficiency of the King Street corridor there’s more time and space to let your mind wander. King Street has many opportunities among its great lengths… but does it have space to play? Imagine? Pause? Everyone is (a) Kid seeks to integrate a luminous splash of childhood into the downtown space. The Lego inspired, spiral form will, through a simple medium - milk crates, provide a place for relaxation, wonderment, and exploration; whether it’s while drinking a fresh brewed coffee, basking in the sun on a lunch hour, or with your kids on a bright Saturday afternoon. Every kid needs a place to play and every adult needs a place to feel like a kid again. The burst of golden yellow, softly filtering the street lights in the evenings, will create a destination. Everyone is (a) kid seeks to engage the community, commuters, and the child in all us in a bustling, urban context. Accessible for all we hope to facilitate a bright moment in everyone’s day and a destination place that sits ablaze on Toronto’s busiest streetcar thruway.
