This proposal is an investigation into the application of both technology and logistical systems to integrate both residential and industrial programs while attempting to become an active contributor to the economic cycle due to an dramatic increase in population. Sited in historical industrial area of Sunset Park in Brooklyn, is a speculative thought of the possibilities with future logistical infrastructure and its impact on societal conditions.

HOUSING LOCATIONS
HUB LOCATIONS
This proposal attempts to account for the migration of people into the area while incorporating logistical systems and robotics technology to integrate and optimize the efficiency of the site in order to compensate for the increase in consumption in the area by maximizing production. The construction of this proposal is divided into four parts. Phase one renovates large factory buildings into residential units to accommodate for the flow of the population while building sectoral hubs, a building which hosts storage, production, and services, in regions of high density to supply demand. Phase two and three continue the planning of sectoral hubs and housing developments throughout the site. Moreover, phase three clears the ground floor to eliminate any obstacles for the robots, who are designed using autonomous technology to deliver products within the site. Lastly, phase four takes a turn due to the over production of products and services, The site is inflated with merchandise; therefore, the sectoral hubs began to shift their focus to storage, while an exchange program between the residents is set in place in order to accommodate the by-product of excessive output.

The Glass Works in Venice, Italy bridge surrounding communities while providing spaces for the World class glass artist Dale Chihuly. Known for his diverse pieces of art, both in aesthetics and scale, Chihuly needs adequate space for production, testing, and display. The site infill the Misercordia Marina and draws from the diverse contextual program and density connecting neighborhoods and providing a framework for the diverse use of the Glass Works site.

SITE PLAN
This proposal celebrates the town of Boonton with a locally specific architectural expression. The building and its site development embody the civic community and the hilly topography that give this small town its solid character. The topography has been of key importance in the evolution of the town’s economy and its history of mill and canal. The design concept originates in the sloping landscape with stepped terraces built over time for the growing town infrastructure. The building serves as a fire station but also provides public garden terraces of rest and interaction to augment the town park downhill along the Rockaway River. Massing hierarchy is stated by two major load bearing walls which project out from the hillside toward Main Street. These masonry walls open up to embrace views of the river’s falls and the hillside opposite, where West Main Street bends to become the town’s Main Street. Massive, textured, site retaining walls and splayed load bearing walls send a message of civic strength, reliability and grace. Boonton’s Fire House will act as a beacon in the community evoking appreciation for the continuity of this place.

MOCK UP (8’ X 6’ X 8’)
An outdoor mock-up was built in order to further understand the properties of the design and the implications of masonry techniques in the design. This mock-up was built in two days with the help of local masons. Elements of the design such as the load bearing walls, screen walls, and concrete structure were synthesized in the mock-up design.
This conceptional design explored formal spaces that can define a program and in turn define the function of the envelope of the building. The program called for new office, research, and classroom spaces for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The facility is located in close promixity to the Shore and Wetlands of New Jersey. The form is inspired by a preached bird, commonly found in this region.

first year | CONCEPTIONAL DESIGN
The design process began with the development of the building form. With manipulations of the envelope, spaces within were formed which were then populated with apporiate programs. Appertures were developed with the aid of Processing.

First Floor
Manipulations of the poche was used to form spaces for habitation and storage. The overall process allowed for new exploration of the manipulation of form and poche that developed programable spaces as well as a language that unifies the form.
