____________________________________________________________________________________________________ IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTES: 1)

Only one battery is required for the pickups, and any active accessories such as the BTC, BTS, BQC, VMC, B30, and B64 equalizers. Two batteries wired in series for 18 volts is recommended for bass to increase headroom and enhance performance.

2)

Use an Alkaline or Lithium battery for longest life.

3)

The controls included with EMG Systems are 25K Ohm, Audio Taper. This value of control is required for the system to work correctly.

4)

When installing EMG Pickups, DO NOT reconnect the bridge ground wire. This wire is usually soldered to a volume or tone control casing and goes to the

bridge. This wire grounds the strings and uses them and your body as a shield against hum and buzz. It also creates a shock hazard. EMG Pickups are shielded internally and DO NOT require string grounding. This greatly reduces the possibility of reverse polarity shock from microphones and other equipment 5)

EMG Active Pickups have very little magnetism compared to passive pickups. We recommend you adjust the pickups as close to the strings as possible. Sustain and string movement will not be inhibited by close adjustment.

6)

If your installation is different from the diagrams in these instructions or you need additional diagrams visit our website: emgpickups.com for a complete listing of available diagrams.

Installation Procedures for Models: P, P5, P6, PJ (set) LJ, J (set), HB, 35P, 35P4 35J, 40J, 45J, 40P, 40P5, 45P 35CS, 40CS, 45CS, 35DC, 40DC, 45DC

NOTE: When installing the J Set, the LJ5 is mounted in The bridge position and the SJ 5is mounted in the neck position. 1)

Remove the existing pickups, control set and jack.

2)

Mount the EMG Control set and output jack in the instrument.

3)

If the pickups need support, use some of the foam included in the package to act as pressure pads behind the pickups. Install the pickups in the bass, routing the cables into the control cavity.

4)

Solder the braid of the pickup cable to the case of the pot as shown in the diagram.

5) Solder the inner white “hot wire of the pickup cable to the volume pot(s) as shown in the diagram. 6) Solder the red wire(s) of the pickup(s) to the red wire from the battery clip and cover this connection with the heat shrink tubing provided. 7) Wrap the battery in some of the packaging foam and attach it to the battery clip. 8) Test the instrument by tapping on the pickups lightly with a screwdriver while plugged into an a
