endicott college men’s tennis

2010 spring preview After advancing to The Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals in each of the last three seasons, the 2010 Endicott men’s tennis team will look to get over the hump and serve the program’s first ever conference title this spring. Led by second year head coach Eric Calderwood, the Blue and Green look forward to another busy schedule that features a Spring Break trip to Orlando, Florida, before returning home for a busy ledger of TCCC action throughout the month of April. The Gulls will have a new look this spring as Endicott will try to replace TCCC All-Star Josh Schoen (Phoenix, Ariz.), who was lost to graduation a year ago. Last season Schoen went 12-4 at No. 1 singles including a 7-2 record against league competition. Calderwood will rely on senior Dan Murray (Coventry, R.I.) to slide into the top-singles slot, as Murray is coming off an AllConference season that featured an 11-4 record at No. 2 singles and an 8-1 mark in TCCC play. Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) will shoulder a majority of the load in the second singles hole, as he went 8-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play last season. The third singles spot will most likely be awarded to Mike D’Ambra (Barrington, R.I.), who was 5-3 in TCCC play and 7-8 overall a season ago. Calderwood has liked the preseason contributions from rookie Olivier Joggi (Stoneham, Mass.), who may work his way into

one of the final singles spots along with senior Scott Kitchen (Norwell, Mass.), junior Justin Nguyen (Shelton, Conn.) and sophomore Porter Williams (Norwalk, Conn.). Endicott’s top doubles team from a year ago was of Dan Murray and Josh Schoen. The pair went 4-2 in league play and 6-6 overall. In 2010 the top spot will be held by Murray and Devon Locke. Locke, who teamed with D’Ambra a year ago, went 7-8 overall in No. 2 doubles. The second paired squad will be D’Ambra and freshman Olivier Joggi, while several varying combinations of Kitchen, Nguyen, Williams, along with junior Holden Babcock (Millbrook, N.Y.) and freshmen Jake Cohen (Barrington, R.I.), will round out No. 3 doubles. Once returning home from their Spring Break trip, the Gulls will play 13 matches in exactly one month before the start of The Commonwealth Coast Conference Playoffs, beginning on April 24th.
