STAIRS & LIFTS All stair/lift cores are fully protected concrete shear wall construction, with additional lobbies where required. As per guidance in Approved Document M, escape stairs are to be 1200mm wide to allow flow of traffic from all floors.

Where a floor level has split occupancy (Retail + Office) a sufficient fire barrier must be provided to prevent the spread of fire between the properties. 18m

A double thickness concrete block wall with fire resistant plasterboard on both sides will provide this barrier, and must be fully sealed via compressible fire breaks and intumescent sealant at the base and head junctions with the concrete floor slabs. Client External wall cavities should be filled with cavity fire barriers at floor intervals to prevent the spread of fire between floors.
