My role as an Chief Editor comes with greater  responsibilities than power.  As the Editor, I commit to put in the effort and commitment to conduct this evaluation.

Kenny Hing

Welcome to the first quarter of JCI Perai E-Newsletters in 2020.  The JCI Perai E-Newsletters this year have achieved a major  milestone in the history of the ENewsletters because  the newsletters have been improved and enhanced! I am happy to announce that ENewsletters will be published 12 times per year (once a month, 12 issues a year),  instead of four  times per year (once every 3 months).  This would enable more effective  processing of the articles and  allow us wider scope to publish  more articles in a year. To get the best out of these  improvements, we encourage more practice-based articles, state-of-the-art contents and critical reviews.

All these would indeed help us in our scoring in the performance measures and in moving up the publication rankings. We will continue to strive to  publish excellent articles and  organise JCI Perai activities. Despite these facts, we have a fairly small number of citations, which is a big hindrance to our goal of receiving an impact factor for our newsletters. I do not believe in rushing into shortcuts that might work in getting more citations for the articles. Instead, we should find better articles which  discuss new ideas and research directions.  Articles of these sort may help to create deep interest in the readership of the articles or the subject matters. These articles are the ones which readers or researchers do not want to miss.

My warm welcome to the new members of the Editorial Board of the newsletters. June Loh Kah Hey will be the Editor for the Second Quarter of JCI Perai E-Newsletters Together we would work towards making the  newsletters a truly influential publication.   Comments, suggestions and special issue proposals are always welcome.

What are the Sustainable Development Goals?

Trainer by Charter President Gary Chew (2019-2020 JCI A.P.D.O)

JCIM LOTS is a briefing of the job scope and responsibilities and code of ethics of the local board of directors Why we organize LOTS:• To ensure everybody knows about their roles and responsibility •To encourage bonding and better understanding among BODs •To have a strong kick start point We appreciate Charter President Gary Chew for his valuable time to sharing LOTS job scope and responsibility, The most important is to sharing his experience in JCI life. Also assigned National Vice President Terry Tan attended and sharing his valuable suggestion.

“If you cannot deliver your best in non-profit organization, then you may have to review the reason why you still here.” Marc Brian Lim (2018 JCI World President)

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

The 17 SDGs are integrated—that is, they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Through the pledge to Leave No One Behind, countries have committed to fast-track progress for those furthest behind first. That is why the SDGs are designed to bring the world to several life-changing ‘zeros’, including zero poverty, hunger, AIDS and discrimination against women and girls.

Industry 4.0 Reskilling Programme Organized by: SME Seberang Jaya, Co-organized by: JCI Perai & PUMM LOCAL manufacturers, especially the small and medium enterprises, have been told to be brave to adopt the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). State Domestic and International Trade Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain said the potential growth of the IR4.0 was limitless. “The IR4.0 could be the solution to so many issues concerning the manufacturing industry; issues such as the environment, health, reduction of waste, supply chain management, safety and many more. “The manufacturing industry is shaping its own future. Conventional models are making way for greater technology.“ We have no choice but to be aggressive in adopting the IR4.0,” he said in his speech before opening the Industry 4.0 Reskilling Programme at Vangohh Eminent Hotel & Spa in Bukit Mertajam today. The three-day workshop, organised by the Seberang Prai SME Association, co-organised by JCI Perai and PUMM attracted more than 100 participants. It served as a platform to equip the local manufacturers with the essential knowledge to face the IR4.0.

While the world has achieved progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment under the Millennium Development Goals (including equal access to primary education between girls and boys), women and girls continue to suffer discrimination and violence in every part of the world.

Clean, accessible water for all is an essential part of the world we want to live in and there is sufficient fresh water on the planet to achieve this. However, due to bad economics or poor infrastructure, millions of people including children die every year from diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene.

Roughly half the world’s population still lives on the equivalent of about US$2 a day with global unemployment rates of 5.7% and having a job doesn’t guarantee the ability to escape from poverty in many places. This slow and uneven progress requires us to rethink and retool our economic and social policies aimed at eradicating poverty.

Investments in infrastructure – transport, irrigation, energy and information and communication technology – are crucial to achieving sustainable development and empowering communities in many countries. It has long been recognized that growth in productivity and incomes, and improvements in health and education outcomes require investment in infrastructure

The international community has made significant strides towards lifting people out of poverty. The most vulnerable nations – the least developed countries, the landlocked developing countries and the small island developing states – continue to make inroads into poverty reduction.  However, inequality persists and large disparities remain regarding access to health and education services and other assets.

Orphanage Community

JCI Member Knowledge Corner

Organized by: JCI Perai Organizing Chairlady: Chang Mooi Yim Establishing a good social image, improving personal sense of honor and belonging, is conducive to building a healthy culture of "harmonious family, harmonious chamber of commerce, and harmonious society". On February 23, 2020, with the support of people from all walks of life, Jci Perai came to shan children's home to launch a series of love activities—Caring for Orphans, donating supplies and daily necessities for the orphanage, and visiting the children of the orphanage. And condolences. Send them the most sincere greetings, the most sincere care, embody humane care, and strive to create a warm and stable harbor for orphans and vulnerable groups. Let them feel the warmth of the community. Whenever we have a family reunion and enjoy the warmth and joy, there are always some orphans who are lonely. They have no loved ones, no friends, no one who speaks. The feeling is beyond our experience. jci perai acts as a bridge to carry out sympathy activities with all caring people in the society.

Cities are hubs for ideas, commerce, culture, science, productivity, social development and much more. At their best, cities have enabled people to advance socially and economically.

Sustainable consumption and production is about promoting resource and energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and providing access to basic services, green and decent jobs and a better quality of life for all. Its implementation helps to achieve overall development plans, reduce future economic, environmental and social costs, strengthen economic competitiveness and reduce poverty.

Climate change is now affecting every country on every continent. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries dearly today and even more tomorrow.

The world’s oceans – their temperature, chemistry, currents and life – drive global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind. Our rainwater, drinking water, weather, climate, coastlines, much of our food, and even the oxygen in the air we breathe, are all ultimately provided and regulated by the sea.
