THE EVERYDAY AMERIKKA’S MOST WANTED MONEY JUNGLE STEEL WHEELS 3 FT HIGH AND RISING

THE EVERYDAY

MONEY JUNGLE Pre-cast concrete panels are typically all made the same way, there’s the formwork, which is made with plywood with a form lining in it, and rebar for structural support. This process is inexpensive and efficient. Monkey Jungle explored the opposite of this. Using an acrylic box, acrylic rods, and stretchy nylon fabric, I was able to make concrete look soft and touchable, like a pillow. The concrete mixture was thin/medium which allowed it to flow freely between the acrylic rods. This generated the pillow like casting.

AMERIKKA’S MOST WANTED Education is a real problem in the United States. Currently the United States is ranked 24 in Reading, 24 in Science, 38 in Math, and our overall Ranking is 29. Some of the top countries include Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan. Schools from some of these countries have similarities that include classrooms with direct access to outdoor courtyards, big windows in every learning space, and the freedom for children to choose their own learning space.

STEEL WHEELS The idea of creating something from nothing is not a new. Architects have been doing it since the dawn of time. However, the idea of seeing things that are not meant to be seen, is a relatively modern idea. Steel Wheels explored the idea of taking parts from machines, that are not meant to be seen, and turning them into models that are meant to be examined.

3 FT HIGH AND RISING When using a turntable there are four major components. These components are crucial parts that enable the user to scratch and mix records to their liking including pitch adjustment, speed selector, stylus, and the platter. Those four parts are transformed into cultural building blocks for Hip-Hop. There are battling balconies where on lookers can bust a move on the ground, and the sounds of DJ’s and MC’s flow throughout the city of Dumbo.
