Meet George! This lifetime member comes to the J three or four times a week with one goal in mind: becoming a firefighter. Thanks to his workouts at the J, George passed the Candidate's Physical Ability Test with flying colors, and he is able to maintain his level of fitness as he continues the application process. Early Childhood Education Each month, the J's Early Childhood Education (ECE) program focuses on a different Jewish value to incorporate into classroom lesson plans and share with families. October's value: Bal Taschit (Do Not Destroy) Pre-Kindergarten teacher Ms. Cindy organized a school-wide fundraiser and recycling project: ECE collected 322 lbs of plastic lids (that Pre-Kindergarten classes then washed and sorted) to be sent to a recycling plant to create a toddler-sized bench and picnic table for the playgrounds. At home, families can recycle or repurpose items to take care of the Earth and limit the amount of trash in landfills. Recycling can also be a great tool to incorporate math into your everyday routine. November's value: Tzedakah (Giving/Charity) The North Wing Twos classroom put together a card and gift for a housekeeping staff member to thank them for taking out the trash after lunch, and ECE's littlest learners created tzedakah boxes to collect spare change, which families voted to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. Creating tzedakah boxes is a great family project!

WE ARE THE J

Todah Rabah (Thank You)! It's safe to say that 2020 was nothing like anyone could have imagined. The impact of COVID-19 could have been far more devastating for our community center if not for our J Funders.

Many of you know that the majority of the J's funding comes from membership and program fees. Without J Funder support, the J would have been out of funding by May 2020. Thanks to our J Funders, the J is still able to act as a vibrant community resource.

Summer Care fun, safely

Members and J Funders have supported the J in so many ways: • M ore than 70% of our members retained their JCC memberships. In addition, several donated early childhood tuition and program fees for afterschool care, summer camp, tennis, personal training and more.

Outdoor gymnastics — COVID-safe!

• M embers have participated in the J's virtual programming (and made donations on top of some admission fees) and have masked up and socially distanced when returning to the facility in person to maintain our safe bubble. • C ontributions quadrupled, with members participating in campaigns like "I Am Your J — COVID-19 Relief," "Hand in Hand" and "End-of-Year Appeal," helping to make up some ground in a year when the J's gap in funding was even larger than normal. • O rganizations have funded grants for initiatives like the Shinshinim program that welcomed two young Israeli emissaries to Indianapolis, LED lights for the gyms and fitness center that brighten up the spaces and use less energy, and health and safety upgrades including automatic flushing toilets, occupancy sensors and touchless hand dryers and temperature monitor.

For all of this and more, you have the JCC's endless gratitude.
