Meet Tennis Camp Counselor Cole What Cole M. likes best about being a camp counselor is the smiles on the kids’ faces. “If they’re having fun, they’ll be more likely to listen. And learn,” he said. Cole wanted to give back and provide the positive experiences to kids that he had when he was a camper here (he’s been part of the J community since he was 5 years old). “I think leadership by example is one of the most important skills for a counselor. If the kids see you do it, they’ll want to do it. You have to be a role model because their eyes are on you every second.” He also understands the importance of connecting with kids individually and looks forward to talking Star Wars with fellow fans!

Early Childhood Education Jewish Value of the Month Each month, the J's Early Childhood Education (ECE) program focuses on a different Jewish value to incorporate into classroom lesson plans and share with families. March's value: Shmirat HaGuf (Care of the Body) This Jewish value was put into practice through exercise, eating healthy and of course, plenty of hand washing. • The North Wing Ones classroom celebrated being able to swim in the Backer Therapy Pool again! • Classroom materials like play food allow children to explore healthy food options.

Swimming is an excellent activity to make little bodies stronger

BBYO (the leading pluralistic teen movement aspiring to involve more Jewish teens in more meaningful Jewish experiences, housed at the J) is winding down for the school year and will resume in August. To all of this year’s seniors: Thank you for all of your enthusiasm, adaptability and energy, and best of luck in all of your future endeavours! Arts & Education May’s events include a Mexican Jewish musician, an Instant Pot cooking demo and a U.S. Senator: • An Evening with Las Palabras (Rafael Cohen) — performance and Q&A In partnership with Arte Mexicano En Indiana Las Palabras is nine joyful snapshots about simple pleasures sung entirely in Cohen’s first language, Spanish (he moved to the U.S. at age 10, so his Spanish is still at a fourth-grade level). Musically, Las Palabras evokes the records Cohen’s parents listened to while he was growing up: Mexican guitar standards, the acoustic soul of Bill Withers and classic Caetano Veloso and Jorge Ben. Tue, May 11 | 8 pm | FREE • Cooking demo with Paula Shoyer, author of The Instant Pot® Kosher Cookbook — blintzes and cheesecake for Shavuot, the holiday commemorating the giving of the Torah! In partnership with the JCC Literary Consortium Thu, May 13 | 7:30 pm | $5 ticket only, $30 ticket+book • S enator Amy Klobuchar, author of Antitrust: Taking on Monopoly Power from the Gilded Age to the Digital Age In partnership with the JCC Literary Consortium Wed, May 19 | 8 pm | $10 ticket only, $36 ticket+signed book

All events are virtual. More details and registration at JCCindy.org/events.
