Track and field’s Sanders wins 60 meter dash at Iowa State Open Several members of the JCCC track and field team had impressive efforts competing at the Iowa State Open over the weekend. Freshman sprinter Alex Sanders sprinted to a victory in the 60-meter dash with a winning time of 6.74. His time is the fastest recorded in the NJCAA this season, and ranks as the fifth-fastest in JCCC history. Freshman sprinter Shaun Smith placed fifth in the race with a time of 6.84. Both runners also had top five finishes in the 200-meter dash. Sanders placed fourth with a time of 21.77, and Smith was close behind in fifth place with a time of 21.93. Sophomore Sam Hughs recorded a fourth place finish in the high jump, clearing 6’6.75”. Freshman Luke Arnold placed fourth in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 15’1”. Arnold also won the event last week at JCCC clearing 15’0.75”. Freshman Robert Segura placed 10th in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:35.62 and freshman Chelsey Borders placed 14th in the women’s 60-meter dash with a time of 7.95.
