Sports Information Director In his 22nd year at JCCC, 21st as sports information director, Tyler Cundith coordinates all media relations for the athletic department’s 18 sports. He is the first full-time sports information director in the history of the college. On Feb. 16, 2008, Cundith was inducted to the JCCC Athletics Hall of Fame.

JCCC Sports Information Office The Johnson County Community College sports information office is dedicated to helping professional media in their coverage of JCCC athletics. As you visit our site, you will find all scores, statistics, releases, features and media guides. All interviews must be arranged through Tyler Cundith, JCCC sports information director. A phone line will be made available at JCCC athletic events for visiting radio stations to broadcast the match or game. The sports information office at JCCC is responsible for statistical services and information to media in attendance and reporting to the media following each home event.

During his tenure, Cundith has provided the publicity for 10 national championship teams, 74 teams with top-five finishes at nationals, 89 Region/District championship teams, 118 conference championship teams and over 800 individual All-Americans.

Cundith has won 197 national awards for publications and writing, including 180 by CoSIDA. He has had 87 publications judged best in the nation, 82 by CoSIDA, four by the NJCAA and one by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. He has also had 24 covers picked best in the nation by CoSIDA. Cundith has finished among the top five in the country for total awards won three times in his career. In 2002-03, Cundith led the country with 17 awards, ahead of Texas and Nebraska (15), Maryland (14) and Notre Dame and Texas A&M (13). He again led the nation in 2010-11 with 11 publication honors, three more than Oklahoma and LSU. He made it two straight years last year, leading the country with eight national awards.

Additionally, Cundith has finished among the five national six other times, including runner-up finishes in 2003-04 and 2009-10. In 2003-04, he was awarded a career-best 19 awards, including 10 “Best in the Nation” honors, second nationally to Nebraska. In 2009-10, Cundith had the second highest total nationally with 13 awards, three behind Oklahoma, and seven of his awards were “Best in the Nation”. Cundith has served the past 11 years on the CoSIDA Publications Committee. He will serve his third year as a Vice Chair. Cundith’s experience also includes stints with the Kansas City Attack Professional Indoor Soccer team as public relations director, the Kansas City Brass of the Premier Development Soccer League as media relations director and the Kansas City Chiefs in ticket operations. In 1995, Cundith worked for ESPN as a researcher and spotter during the NPSL All-Star Game in Buffalo. He also served on the media relations staff at the first and second rounds of the 1997 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. Cundith’s extensive writing background also includes coverage for Sun Publications, Major Indoor Lacrosse League, Kansas City Golf and Travel Magazine and the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. In addition to his duties as sports information director, Cundith also teaches golf for the physical education department and coordinates JCCC’s summer youth golf camps. In the summer of 1999, Cundith set a United States record by holing out the 488-yard par 5 sixth hole at Oak Country Golf Club in DeSoto. His ace was just eight yards shy of the world record. It was also named “The Ace of the Year” by Golf Magazine and he appeared in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” in September 1999 issue. Cundith graduated from the University of Kansas in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in communications. In 1990, he earned his master’s degree in education/sports administration from Wichita State University. Cundith and his wife, Annette, have a son, Brandon, 19; and daughter, Kelsey, 17.
