Region VI Championship Teams 1990 In a repeat of the 1989 Region VI title game, JCCC avenged its loss a year earlier, defeating Butler County in two straight games to win head coach Kent Shelley’s first Region VI title. JCCC edged the Grizzlies in game one, 8-7, then cruised to an 11-1 victory in the second game. Ranked among the top teams in the country in 1990, JCCC fell short of reaching the NJCAA World Series when their season ended in the District Championship.

1993 After easily repeating as Eastern Sub-region champions by outscoring their opponents 35-10, the Cavaliers carried that momentum with them to Garden City for the Region VI Championship. JCCC had to rally from the brink of elimination to capture the title. After dropping game one 43, the Cavaliers faced a two-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth in game two. JCCC rallied for three runs t win 12-11 and force game three, which JCCC won 4-2.

2008 JCCC defeated Kansas City Kansas 6-2 to win 2008 Region VI Championship. The Cavaliers reached the title game by posting wins over Barton County (7-4), Seward County (6-3) and Cowley (7-6). In the first title game, JCCC lost 16-7 to KCK, but in the final game, JCCC clinched its first berth to the NJCAA JUCO World Series behind the arm of staff ace Travis Blankenship. The sophomore lefthander allowed just two runs on four hits and struck out in a complete game win. The win was Shelley’s 599th of his career.
