JCC Early Childhood Learning Center

We’re Your Partners in Childhood Education Preschool at the J

Transitional Kindergarten

Our preschool will help your child develop a lifelong love of learning and our teaching faculty will help prepare your child for the best kindergartens in Orange County

Do you want your child to be a leader and excited about learning?

The Merage JCC’s Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC), provides a smooth transition from home to school where children learn to explore and relate to a wider world. Our goal is to build a strong foundation and nurture a joy of lifelong learning. We offer programs for children six weeks old through Transitional Kindergarten. CURRICULUM: Our curriculum is founded upon the richness of Judaic tradition and values and is deeply inspired by the theories and philosophies of the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy. This cutting edge philosophy of early learning maintains a strong focus on children’s academic development through an approach that fosters a love for literacy, math and science. Each day we provide opportunities for social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth that prepare children for kindergarten readiness. In our small class sizes, children develop research, inquiry and critical thinking skills. Children construct meaning from their learning environments which seamlessly blend the richness of Jewish values, traditions and holiday celebrations into our early childhood education. JCC preschoolers and their families have access to an unparalleled facility and all the benefits of the entire Merage JCC, including indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, swimming pools and spacious grounds. Through creative hands-on experiences, our children embark on a journey from home to kindergarten. Our programs are designed and based upon the most recent research in brain development and are founded upon cutting edge child development. We know that children learn and progress as they grow and develop new skills and ways of thinking and perceiving. In our state-of-the-art classrooms, our children are encouraged to embark on an exploration of concepts, gain awareness and understanding of literacy and numeracy, and become more articulate, confident individuals.

WINTER SESSION 2013 JAN. 7 to MAR. 1, 2013

Transitional Kindergarten is a very exciting time in your child’s school experience. “TK” at the Merage JCC is designed for children who either “just miss” or “just make” the cut-off for Kindergarten entrance, but would benefit more from a small class size and enhanced curriculum in this year. Our TK program is taught by experienced Kindergarten teachers and offers the gift of an added or enhanced year for children who fall on the “cusp” of entry into elementary school. Children are prepared to continue on to Kindergarten or a first grade upon completion of the TK program.

Registration opens Dec. 17 In person or online Tues., Jan. 1, 2013 New Year’s Day ITC, ECLC closed JAN. 25,

Our program focuses energy on building a strong classroom community based on mutual respect and fostering social-emotional growth in each child. Over the course of the TK year, your child will dive deep into literacy and math and science explorations, learning key concepts through a variety of lenses. The children will strengthen their relationships with the alphabet, build a solid foundation of reading skills, and expand their understand of the purpose of writing and varying forms of communication. Math will focus on developing strong numeracy skills and problem-solving from multiple perspectives. The TK community of learners will use experiences in the real world to examine and interpret their academic and socialemotional understanding.

GRANDPARENTS DAY FEB. 8, DADS & DOUGHNUTS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Jan. 21 & Feb. 18 ECLC & ITC Closed @ 3:30 p.m.

In our small class sizes of 18 students to 2 teachers, children actively research, inquire and think critically about the world around them. While our academic standards are fixed goals we are working towards during the Transitional Kindergarten year, our school’s philosophy is to have a flexible inquiry-based curriculum that is guided by a series of research questions. At the heart of everything we do is the ultimate goal of fostering curious, creative, and critical thinkers.

Year Round Youth Aquatics Program

Merage JCC WAVES Swim Team Trains Winners WAVES swimming uses a progressive age group program in which the swimmer is instructed and developed in physical, mental and emotional levels in a systematic fashion. An emphasis on fun and family for the younger swimmers develops into a gradual increase in commitment over a period of years. Every unique group for children emphasizes the joy of swimming at the same time introducing the child to beginning swimming technique. Slutzky Art Gallery AMY SEGALL Thru 1/11/13 Amy Segall was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to Orange County in 1999 where she studied art in high school. She says, “I fell in love with acrylic paint and the way the colors are able to blend and be transformed on canvas.” Her passion for painting, symbolism and Jewish thought inspired the creation of this exhibit. The 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 Zodiac signs do not seem to be related but when taking a closer look and understanding what each represents similarities and connections are seen. She explains, “This exhibition is the combination of biblical words, signs and personalities, where each embodies more than the eye can see. It is about the meaning and values behind these words, symbols and colors. It is up to the viewer’s imagination and their own personal stories and lessons to interpret this exhibit.”
