“Ebullient! Winning presence” LA Times “Accomplished performance! Hilarious!” LA Weekly

One night only! Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, 7:30 p.m.

The highly acclaimed A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN chronicles Jake Ehrenreich’s life and is an engaging, poignant and hilarious comedy musical about the search for identity and meaning. From the streets of Brooklyn to the laughter and rebirth of Catskills summers, to his mother’s and sister’s heartbreaking early Alzheimer’s disease, this tour de force performance is a delightful journey that speaks to anyone hoping to live out the American Dream. The Philadelphia Inquirer calls it “An uplifting treasure with universal appeal - in the same elevated company as Billy Crystal’s 700 Sundays and Chazz Palminteri’s A Bronx Tale.” $30 Members, $35 Public, $40 at the door. Reserved seating.

Saturday, March 16, 8 p.m. & Sunday, March 17, 4 p.m.

THE KLEZMATICS are world-renowned and Grammy-winning superstars of the klezmer world whose music is steeped in Jewish tradition and Eastern European spirituality. The Klezmatics have raised the bar for Eastern European Jewish music, made aesthetically, politically and musically interesting recordings, inspired future generations, created a large body of work that is enduring, and helped to change the face of contemporary Yiddish culture. Often called a “Jewish roots band,” the Klezmatics have led a popular revival of this ages-old, nearly forgotten art form. They incorporate provocative themes with eclectic musical influences including gospel, punk and jazz improvisations and Arab, African and Balkan rhythms. The Klezmatics have also recently accepted the Italian Tenco Award for songwriting based on their work with the lyrics of Woody Guthrie, a nice complement to the Grammy Award received for their Guthrie album Wonder Wheel. The Klezmatics’ music is rooted in but is not a strictly traditional variety of the klezmer genre. Rather it is a comfortable hybrid that appeals equally to those with no previous exposure to the music and those already familiar with it. Not bad for a bunch of Americans who each came to klezmer music almost by accident. $30 Members, $35 Public, $40 at the door. Reserved seating.

One Night Only! Saturday, April 20, 7:30 p.m.

“The Klezmatics aren’t just the best band in the klezmer vanguard; on a good night, they can rank among the greatest bands on the planet.” – Time Out New York
