Our programmes are progressive in nature and are designed to encourage participants to venture outside their comfort zone, optimizing learning capabilities. We operate primarily in the UK and cover the length and breadth of the country. We also provide bespoke expeditions tailored to your school’s requirements. Whether you want a leadership, team building and problem solving programme delivered on your school grounds, a catered residential or Camp Craft course in the picturesque Peak District, or a Base Camp multi activity programme in the beautiful Black Mountains of South Wales - Class Adventure can provide it. For older students we also run 5-day trekking expeditions in North Wales and the Lake District and River Expeditions on the River Wye.

OUR ETHOS - CHALLENGE - PARTICIPATION - ENVIRONMENT

We encourage students to develop their characters by taking on responsibility, working as part of a team and learning to lead. Our ethos runs throughout our portfolio. We like to challenge all students taking part in our programmes by giving them responsibility, encouraging them to take ownership, and to learn new skills. Student benefits are numerous and the life skills we teach are transferable – they can be utilized back at school or in the home environment, as well as in the great outdoors.

SUMMIT TREK North Wales - Lake District The 5-Day Summit Trek is our flagship offering for older students. The expedition is both fun and extremely rewarding and is the ultimate test of teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Accommodation can be a mix of mountain tents and camping barns depending on the itinerary chosen. Students will work in teams, experience life in a mountain environment and learn how to adapt and become self sufficient. Their performance will be carefully facilitated by our Leaders to ensure maximum input is given by the students and therefore maximum benefit is gained from their experience. This programme is primarily run in North Wales around the Ogwen Valley and Snowdon area; however we also offer a Lake District option which takes place in the beautiful surroundings of Borrowdale near Keswick. Both locations will challenge the students, as they will have to work as a team, take on responsibility and learn how to cope in an environment which will test their resolve. Our expeditions are designed to be exciting, rewarding and inspiring.

BUSHCRAFT Bath Bushcraft has previously formed part of Class Adventure’s Camp Craft and Base Camp programmes. As a result of high demand from our client schools we have also decided to offer Bushcraft as a standalone programme in 2011. We are introducing both 2-day and 3-day itineraries. Our new Bushcraft initiative will take place in a rural setting 8 miles outside the historic city of Bath and is designed to be informative, interactive and fun. The itinerary is likely to include: improvised cooking, shelter building, water sources, navigation, self sufficiency, survival and camp craft. If the concept of a “back to basics” programme appeals to you then this is the programme for your school group. * Please note that due to the nature of our Bushcraft programmes, we have to preserve the environment within which they are delivered. This means that places will be limited.

TEAM SPIRIT Various A 1-day programme based on your school grounds or in nearby open space, we bring our practical leadership and development tasks and activities to you. Facilitated by an experienced team of Class Adventure Leaders, our Team Spirit tasks and activities are tailored to your students’ age group to ensure progression and a fun problem solving day. Whether delivered as an introduction to leadership, a year group bonding session, a team building day, or for prefect training, this programme is extremely popular for all student age groups. Designed to be used as a medium to stretch minds and develop character, our 1-day programme will bring out the best in all participants. Students are encouraged to review their performance and evaluate results as a peer group so they learn from their experiences.

2-day Programme: Team Spirit + Team Spirit can also be delivered as a 2-day onsite programme: Team Spirit +. This includes an overnight camp to aid development and to teach self sufficiency skills. It gives students the opportunity to experience living under canvas and to take responsibility for their own meals, tent, area and team. Team Spirit + incorporates all of the leadership and developmental elements of our 1-day option but is also an exciting, fun and rewarding introduction to camp craft within the safe environment of your school grounds.

Frequently Asked Questions Why is a Residential Course so important to our group? In addition to covering several key aspects of the National Curriculum, a visit to a JCA centre provides your group with a brand new learning environment to build confidence and develop independence.Your group will experience challenging and exciting adventures in a safe and secure setting that will encourage team building and most of all, FUN! This is widely recognised and supported by all the leading political parties and is demonstrated through recent investment. “School trips are an integral partof school life…Adults and pupils gain immensely from such trips, not only do they have a high educational content, but they allow adults and pupils to getto know eachother better in adifferent environment from the classroom.” National Union of Adults. How do you compare to your competitors? JCA is the only UK Activity Company to provide you with one dedicated instructor per activity group for the duration of your stay! This enables the instructors to understand the strengths, limitations and personalities of each individual and helps them reach their full potential through this trust and rapport. We are confident that our prices are the most competitive, our packages are inclusive of full holiday insurance and we always offer 1:8 free places for accompanying adults. We won’t be beaten on price! (With the exception of any special offers) We have always travelled with another company and would like to change but I am not sure I can cope with all the paperwork? We make it easy! We can send you our Safety Management Policy and risk assessments and will even complete your EV form for you. It is likely that we are already approved by your Local Authority as we have been taking schools from their area for years. We encourage Party Leaders who are not familiar with the JCA experience to join us on our preview visit events to meet the team and other adults. We are unable to book anything yet as we don’t know our exact group size? We make it easy; you can secure your preferred centre and dates with a nominal Holding Deposit of only £20 per person (+VAT). We will then hold your booking until the end of September, by which time you’ll be able to send us your First Deposits to confirm the final numbers. Holding Deposits will be taken to represent your maximum group size. A reduction of up to 20% (before payment of First Deposits) will not result in cancellation charges or loss of Holding Deposits. If group numbers decrease by more than 20% after the Holding Deposits have been paid, and before First Deposits are due, charges will be incurred. Are your centres and activities accredited? All of our centres and activities operate to the highest safety standards and we continually monitor, assess and develop our procedures to ensure that those standards are consistently maintained. We conform to several National Governing Bodies’ Codes of Practice and always strive to exceed their standards. For more information on our accreditations, please refer to page 18. What specialist equipment to you provide? Helmets and buoyancy aids are supplied and must be worn as directed by our staff. Wetsuits are also provided where applicable. Specialist equipment for all our activities is supplied free of charge in our prices. Is our group insured or do we need to organise separate insurance? Fully comprehensive insurance is always included free of charge in our prices. It covers each student and adult from the moment your booking is confirmed until you return back to school after your trip, including travel and all our activities. We will provide you with a detailed policy document for your reference. Do you cater for students specific needs? Absolutely! We are dedicated to providing every young person with the opportunity to enjoy the JCA experience. Many special needs students and groups travel with us every year, as most of our activities can be adapted to suit the needs of the individual student. instructor per activity groupforthedurationofyour stay. The maximum number of students per activity group is 12 - you will decide how the group is split. Do we keep our instructors all week? Your instructors will stay with your groups throughout your course, although there may be some cases where you will have another instructor for a specialist activity session such as watersports. How many free places to we get and how many adults can we bring? For every 8 students under 18, you are entitled to 1 free adult place. We do not insist that you take up this allocation, however you will need to take an adequate number of adults to supervise your group on a ‘loco parentis’ basis. You are welcome to bring additional adults at a supplementary charge. What happens in the evenings? Our team of instructors will ensure that every evening is packedwithfunactivitiestomakeeverydaymemorable, and send the students to bed with that wonderfully content feeling of tiredness and happiness combined! A duty instructor will then be on call throughout the night. We would like to visit local attractions during our stay, is this possible? Yes! Our Activity and Education course offers groups the opportunity to visit some of the wonderful local attractions. We will be happy to organise a full or part programme for your group. We will also gladly arrange excursions from any of our centres for you if required. What happens if it rains? Most activities can continue in wet weather and extra time will be allocated for everyone to dry off properly. If the weather is extreme and activities cannot take place, the Centre Manager will implement the centres’ Wet Weather Plan. Can your staff administer first aid and medication? All of our instructors are First-Aid trained, however it is the responsibility of the accompanying adults to administer any medication that is required or prescribed. What happens in an emergency? Disputes arising out of, or in connection with, this contract which cannot be amicably settled may be referred to arbitration, if the customer so wishes, under a special Scheme arranged by the Association of British Travel Agents, and administered independently by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. 5. The scheme provides for a simple and inexpensive method of arbitration on documents alone with restricted liability on the customers in respect of costs. Full details will be provided on request or can be obtained from the ABTA website (www.abta.com). The Scheme does not apply claims for an amount greater than £5,000 per person. The Scheme can however deal with compensation claims, which include an element of minor injury or illness subject to a limit of £1,000 on the amount the arbitrator can award per person in respect of this element. The application for arbitration and Statement of Claim must be received by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators within nine months of the date of return.
