Falmouth Art Gallery: Brief: The arts and cultural sector is a hugely diverse and exciting area. The museums and galleries who are responsible for the curation and celebration of ideas, knowledge, arts and creativity are often the drivers of cultural engagement in our society. Rebrand one of the chosen galleries focusing on brand values, audience, langauge and media. Solution: My main focus of the rebrand was increasing visibility; it needed to be strong and clear. To keep this simple I combined eyecatching pink contrasting with brown recycled card. Leading to a logo which can be used to frame art work.

Wayfinding

Jaz Virgo

I wanted the identity to feel playful and friendly and yet not too “crafty. I experimented with how this would roll out on website design, wayfinding, advertising, a pop-up gallery and a series of posters. Aiming to show a fresh brand voice and related back to my goals of improving visibility and creating this new sense of voice around town.

Waypoints

Laser cut temporary signage that encorage people from the landmarks and the highstreet to visit the gallery.

Pop-up Gallery

Pop-up gallery within the bustop to encourage students to feel inspired to go into the gallery. This aims to break down any preconceptions that people may have due to the council bulding the gallery is housed within.

Poster Design

This concept aims to utilisise the councils control over disused shops, using the window display as a temporary gallery space. As well as adveritisng, it refreshes and lifts the highstreet.

Rejects Brief: Create a typeface inspired by the anonymous booklet given to you. Start to extract information from it: de-code, analyse, identify systems, look for visual rhythms, opportunities and creative collisions. Outcome: My inspiration was randomness. However “creating randomness is not actually random. I experimented with different ways of limiting choices. I gathered different material offcuts such as modelling foam, metal, wood timber and laser cut plywood. Then pulling four out of a hat to create each letter. This reduced the control over the choice and allowed more randomness to occur.

My experience at Dismaland Brief: Find a compelling way to express your story in the form of a physical book – identifying a clear purpose, and exploring the way visual elements contribute to the construction of a narrative. Outcome: I wanted people to be inspired by my experience and be challenged to think again about the socio-political issues of the 21st century. My concept was derived by the idea of putting light on a situation. The book should be read normally and then re-read using the torch. The aesthetic was inspired by the old fashioned Disney covers to juxtapose the adult themes.

Farrow & Ball: Brief: Be experimental with Farrow & Ball as a brand pushing it beyond its ‘comfort zone’. My concept: ‘Trend Touches’ a quarterly spraypaint subscription box that allows you to be crafty and keep your house on ‘trend’ during the different seasons. Inspiring people to unleash their inner interior design skills and reinvent old furniture. Bring joy with Farrow & Ball not just to your walls but to your home.

Within the box there will be many ideas of how to transform your house with ‘Trend Touches’. It could suggest painting objects you own like chair legs, picture frames, book ends, ornaments and lamps. Inspiring the consumers to reinvent instead of buying new. The box will also provide stencils of fashionable prints so that you can create wall art or framable pieces. Trend Touches is all about igniting creativity!

British Library Brief: Create a series of three engaging and coherent posters specifically focusing on the typographic hierarchy for the British Library advertising “Telling Tales. My outcome: I used a mixture of sans serif and handwritten type to create a clear sense of hierarchy. I created the illustrations from glyphs. Using only red and black, it creates bold and effective posters.

Dissertation Journal 2018 Brief: We would like you to design a proposal for a collection of 11 dissertations from the graduating BA(Hons) Graphic Design 2017. The intention of the journal is to promote excellent critical writing practice as an integral aspect of the undergraduate study. My outcome: Dissertations are typically large bulky documents. I created a typographical system that has multiple levels of engagement. Limiting colour to the short trim pages provides a focus on the synopsis of the chapter. Splitting pages enables the dissertation to be read as normal with reduced interruptions. However, if the reader wants to be more engaged with the content, they can read the whole spreads with the images and pull quotes.
