My fondest memory of me designing is when I would sit with my friends to make paper planes. We would make numerous modifications to our design to get a longest flight until our notebooks ran short of pages. Since then I remained interested in problem solving and my love for designing has only grown with time that drove me to join architecture and parallel to that I took up a course in animation. Architecture built up my passion in design and animation made me proficient with software.

During my internship I was introduced to parametric design as a tool for fabricating sculptural installations. Executing them on site gave me firsthand experience and confidence that laid the path for my undergraduate thesis which received a gold medal at my school.

Since my graduation, I have been working on diverse range of architectural and interior projects. Creating prototypes of light, fixtures and furniture always enhanced my details.

With such expertise, I had the opportunity to be a part of an international project for an exhibition structure design.

I feel fortunate to work with young minds while working as an assistant professor, who stimulated me to reflect on their design processes leading to innovative ideas and solutions.

In a quest to expand my horizon and broaden my skill set, I wish to enroll myself for the program. I believe that this course would provide me an unparalleled opportunity to improve my comprehensive skills and a conducive atmosphere for the same.

Project Brief The ‘Wooden Screen’ was conceived to merge in the beautiful natural setting where the idea was to create a screen such that it eventually becomes a part of its surrounding landscape. The reclaimed wood used is sourced from different places that help give the surface a subtle color variation.

All the wood-to-wood and wood-to-plywood connections are done with wooden pins hence an attempt to minimize the use of any form of metal.

Only the junctions of the screen to the wall and the base are done with bespoke stainless steel connection pieces. Also the arrangement of the wooden shingles gives one view a solid feel whereas from the other side it feels like a wooden perforated jaali.

We used 3D Modelling of the screen considering the balance of the screen and the shape of the screen.

The pavilion is conceived as a tower which creates a sense of cocoon when the viewer is ushered inside. The idea behind this installation was to build a sensual surface which is permeable, which evokes emotions and explores the opulence of sustainable materials.

Contribution: designing, model prototyping and drawings.

It was designed for a marriage event as a shade for seating’s. The idea was to create a conical tower which acted as a well lit structure to create different experiences and achieve an adequate curvature to minimize fabric stresses and movements. The purpose was to fulfill the Sun-shading levels required for Sun angles. Aesthetic considerations and compatibility with adjacent elements was also one of the major concerns since it was used for a private event.

Contribution: preparation of drawings and execution of the structure.

The square form is carved from inside by an organic surface that creates an internal volume yet blends seamlessly with the outside form.

Project Brief

This project was done in collaboration with the great Scenographer Rajeev Sethi for Adani House. We connected 30,000 unique laser cut pieces of MDF to make this creation. The geometry was inspired by Islamic patterns found in ‘Muqarnas’.

The traditional patterns were interpreted using parametric tools and softwares to bring in heterogeneity and dynamism.

This light installation is installed in the ceiling area of the dining room of the house.

The wooden foliage was used as an installation screen to create a visual attraction and an interior false ceiling. It was placed above a juice bar to give it a look of an ‘Indian Thadi’.

We sliced the linear wooden elements into thin wooden discs.

The idea was to connect the wooden discs and make something that would be fluid, light and flexible, in contradiction to woods original chunky form. Each of the wooden discs was designed to have 6 holes along its perimeter and these holes were then manually connected to each other by using staple pins, almost like stitching the wooden discs together.

I was involved in form designing, preparation of drawings and site execution.

Contribution: form exploration, prototyping and site execution.

ABSTRACT Digital technologies have the ability to reverse, rearrange, and modify common analog design processes.

Today’s practicing architects still generally maintain a linear design process, limiting flexibility and freedom in intermediate design steps. The introduction of parametric and generative design through scripting alters the design process into a nonlinear path that extends idea manipulation and exploration late into the project development.

My research focuses on making space dedicated to schools solely for this purpose to provide a platform to its user to stimulate, promote and develop researches on diverse areas of advanced architecture.

The idea came up with the imagination of Utopian schools. The key to this was to encourage students’ curiosity and innovative thinking by breaking down the traditional barriers between academic and practical learning. By creating visual connections between these practical learning spaces would allow students to watch work of different studios, as they create and innovate.

This is done by overlooking mezzanine floors and circulation spaces so that students and visitors are free to move within like the streets giving student, a space for maximum interaction. The building is self demonstrating the idea of advanced architecture through its character and form with the use of computational tools.

Cutting edge, shared digital facilities like these will be a key enabler to encouraging students to come up with and test new ideas.

Project Brief The residential antiquated formation has been beautifully fine-tuned into a double storey building that includes four guest houses, one 4BHK duplex and two clinics for the client.

The major concern of the design was to accentuate privacy.

Structure played a major role for designing since it was a load bearing structure. The spaces were sub divided in such a manner where activities were enveloped within a large space.

Visual and spatial continuity between the spaces was easily accommodated.

Hex|a Chandelier

Project Brief The Hex|a collection is an outcome of hexagonal grids. Caging in the light bulbs in hexagonal metal cages makes the Hanging light a very modern and contemporary design that gives the entire room a raw and industrial mood. The geometric frame features a slim profile and a robust installation that provides a bold, lighting solution for indoor spaces offering visual and aesthetic sustenance.

It has been installed in two other projects.

The Open Space Society Project: Renovation of Institution Client: Hitesh Adwani Location: Raja Park, Jaipur Status: Completed 2017 Site area: 7600 sq. Ft.

Project Brief It was designed for TOSS where the physical space itself has been re-purposed on the principals of reduce, reuse, recycle.

Most materials used in the building were old and ready for the landfill. Rather than junk them, we have refined, remodelled and refashioned them to create a creative space that is vibrant and encourages a free flow of ideas.

The main idea behind the design of the structure was the modulation of railing to give an emphasis to the facade of the building. The articulation of spaces was done with a permutation and combination of symmetrical linear patterns that gives an essence of rhythm.

Project: Office Interior Client: CEO Kapil Sharma Location: Jaipur Design Team: Jaspreet Singh and Amarpreet Kaur Status: Completed 2018 Built-up area: 1500 sq. ft.

Project Brief The location has a perfect backdrop of the Aravalli Range which serves a lively environment to the users creating a convivial atmosphere and synergy. In a bid to create a space that is conducive to work and employee well-being, Srjna has consolidated various working segment into a single space. The main motive was to create inter related transparent spaces illustrating various informal working areas fostering the curiosity and invention.

The spaces were also influenced by the use of colours and wall installations to form attractive design aesthetics with values of knowledge. The light weight frame, shape and colour of lightings, highlights the informal essence for the working areas.

INDIA PAVILION Project: Exhibition Design Client: Ambiente Curator: Ayush Kasliwal, AKFD Location: Galleria 01, Messe Frankfurt Design Team: Jaspreet Singh and Amarpreet Kaur Status: Completed 2019 Built-up area: 1900 sq. Ft.

Project Brief India was a partner country for “India Pavilion”, a leading annual international trade. The concept for the India pavilions was Hand Make in India curated by Ayush Kasliwal. A collaborative work was done for an exhibition design that was held in Messe Frankfurt’s Ambiente, Germany from 8th February, 2019 to 12th February, 2019.

The exhibit represents India’s myriad handmade crafts into a singular identity. The display for the exhibition was inspired by a mixture of Unconventional patterns with diverse materials such as botanical motifs, geometric and outsized figures, vintage prints, illustrative tapestries and innovatively recycled plastic that are juxtaposed in refreshing and surprising ways. One of the challenges was to incorporate the materials where the module was a constraint for the materials. The pavilions were inspired by the Indian cityscape with tall minarets and abstracted windows that open into small streets. The intent behind the circulation pattern was to create vistas and views that represent a typical Delhi local shopping street with altering street widths and variable heights. The highest point of the structure went up to 20ft. Proportion and scale, colour palettes and fast pre fabrication techniques were a major key to design.

Project Brief This was a turn-key project in collaboration with Da Nest Architects. The major aspect of the design was to create collaborative workspaces where the users can effectively and easily work together in a relatively small footprint. Vibrant colours were used to provide a comfort atmosphere. The suspended lighting was a key element of the project to give a high visual impact to the surrounding.

Designing a residential interior is not only about choosing colours and furniture but it’s also about people, and how they interact and use the space. The idea was to give a modern and minimalistic look with a touch of a contemporary design.

The bedroom was designed with a perfect organization which uses a dark colour as the main concept decor with modern lighting and tools to complete the look of a contemporary modern bedroom.

Project Brief Drenched in the rain of resplendence, is this town in Central Rajasthan. Pushkar, the traveller’s heaven, is a town known for its hippy culture and laid back vibes matched with scenic surrealism. It is a renovated hostel with spacious loft style accommodation with courtyards, spacious dorms and common rooms to ensure a comfortable stay and an actual sensation of tranquillity.

Waste Management Program Project: Rural development Client: ASA, jaipur and Barefoot College Location: Tilonia Status: Completed 2018

Project Brief This project was done in collaboration with Barefoot College Tilonia, an NGO working on training the rural poor in sustainable technologies under their waste Management program.

This project involved a construction of two rooms, a dry waste segregation room and a storeroom which were essential to the operation of the village solid waste Management system with minimum usage of stone and cement by replacing them with discarded plastic bottles and locally available mud. The team brain stormed few ideas and the final proposal was unanimously agreed upon which was further drafted and detailed.

Project: Interior design of a Cafe Team: Amarpreet Kaur and Jaspreet Singh Location: Jaipur Status: Completed 2018 Built-up area: 350 sq. Ft.

Project Brief This Haveli was one such privately owned residence which had to be further extended to operate as a farmhouse. An attempt was made to make a prototype of a traditional Haveli which had intricate details, richly carved multi-foil arches for chaukhat, studded wooden doors and windows, staircase and furniture treated by lighting and illumination. The facade was treated with perforated jaalis. The basic idea was to preserve the old house and its architectural character for the generations to come and ensuring that it blends within the urban context without compromising on the modern amenities.

Project Brief A small-scale project, set amidst a cozy neighbourhood where the cafe exterior represents the interior through its glass facades providing an ambient light and exterior cladding. An organic lighting was installed to emulate a proper lighting to the interior. it was completed in a record time of 25 days since the first client meeting till the innaugration of the cafe.

Arun Sharma Residence Project: Residential Project Client: Lawyer (Arun Sharma) Location: Jaipur Status: Completed 2017 Built-up area: 1800 sq. Ft.

Project Brief The key feature to this design was that the spaces were divided by a lobby to meet the need of the client with maximum amount of light and ventilation. An attempt was made to explore a double curvilinear jaali which was to be treated for the facade but was not executed on the site.

The Nest Banquet

Project: Banquet Hall Client: in collaboration with Da Nest Studio Location: Jaipur - Ajmer Highway Status: In Progress Built-up area: 16000 sq. Ft

Project Brief The Banquet Hall is a structure supported by columns that covers a large span seamlessly providing free movement across the spaces. The cage was designed with hollow bent pipes to support the large structure with as much flexibility as possible for future use. To achieve the optimum design, we relied heavily on parametric design that helped to work out the sightlines, geometry, airflow to keep the glass in good condition and the design of the external envelope. While the surface of the structure is simple, the geometry is complex – getting the calculations right was an immense task.

One Touch Laundry

Tactical Knife Project: Product design Team: Amarpreet Kaur and Jaspreet Singh Location: Jaipur Status: Completed 2019

Project Brief It is cast from a single piece of flat stainless steel coated with black matte paint. Minimalism at its best, the knife is strong and features a flat blade with perfect grid lines supported by a main and micro bevel. The handle allows a perfect grip to be fit along the length featured with a guard so that it does not slip across the blade. The intention was to understand various prototypes of knives and see how the ergonomics fits best for the required purpose.

Project Brief The basic idea was to make an attempt to explore how an industrial machine can be made by a normal bending metal sheet. We also got to learn how various industrial machines are used for their fabrication.

We studied about the material , industrial workflow, various standard sizes, welding and bolting basics

Contribution : Drawing , assembling of a prototype machine With the quest to learn more, I joined the animation course during my b.arch which gave me a new perspective towards technology where I got familiar with 3D modelling and VFX which further aided me in the future projects.
