Preface All Christian parents have received the wonderful mission of leading their children to God. The children parents have received are under God’s promise. He has a plan of life for each one of them. Parents must just believe, serve and wait on the One who is faithful. Children are like a gift, a fine jewel. However, parents cannot forget that this jewel fell on the floor and got dirty. So there is the need for them to be cleansed and be brought to God again. Parents must make a vow to the Lord that they will take care of their children but will not keep them to themselves. They must make sure that they are raising their children for the Lord’s interest. Parents need to commit themselves to God for the sake of their children, have a holy living and do everything to keep a positive image of their lives as father, mother and spouses in their children’s memory. They need to commit themselves to be not lacking in affection and discipline, establishing a government in their home so that the children will recognize their position and not become bossy and naughty 5

kings. They need to keep their children from this cruel world that constantly seeks to transform the uncommon into common, the normal into abnormal. Parents, raising children is not an easy task. One moment they are in the “fold, the next moment they can be somewhere else, lost. If your child strays away from the flock for any reason and gets lost, both father and mother must seek him, not aggressively but with diligence and humility. Children will realize the way back when they are enlightened. When they come back, you do not need to give them a sermon, but receive them with open arms and with a kiss full of love. Finally, never forget that our children were born of iniquity and if they are not restrained, from their heart will flow rebellion and stupidity. But thank the Lord that we have three ways that might help them: first, use the rod in love when necessary; second, spend time together, especially around the table having meals together; and third, instruct the children’s hearts with heavenly teachings. We are happy for your choosing to read this book and we pray that all the promises and instruction in this little book would turn into blessings in your home and in the church life you are in. 6

Chapter 1

A SPECIAL MISSION

Conduct, Preserve and Prepare the Vessel for Christ The first spiritual realization that parents must have toward the children God has given them is that they need to be led to Christ; they need to leave one side and be led to another, that is leave Adam and be transferred into Christ (Rom. 5:12-21). All parents must think like this daily. If the matter of a transfer is ignored and we start searching for another future for them, we must realize that we have already failed as parents. To bring children to Christ is the obligation of every parent. It is not hard to imagine that this transfer will take a long time to happen. After all, for a while they are too young to know that they are sinners and Christ is their Saviour. So parents need to preserve them until the day they understand what this means.

How to Shape Children

Vessels Made to Receive Christ Children are like vessels. A vessel’s function is to be filled with something. Christ is the content that is predestined to fill the vessels. Children, as vessels (2 Cor. 4:7) need to be preserved through the training of their conscience in order that Christ may one day come into them as a treasure. This training accomplishes our first mission as Christian parents and makes our children fulfilled as human beings. Personal fulfilment is not about possessing all the treasures on earth. Personal fulfilment is to be filled with Christ as our greatest and truest treasure on earth. But in a practical way, how can we train our child’s conscience? Let us present some important points: 1. Teach God’s moral law; 2. Teach regarding righteousness, holiness and the love of God; 3. Teach some important elements of human culture. Regarding God’s moral law, we need to tell them that there is only one God in the universe who is the Lord Jesus Christ and that we don’t need to worship anyone besides Him. We need to teach them that God is the Spirit. His name must be A Special Mission

honoured because His name is above all names and must be remembered and worshipped every day. Our children must be helped to realize that parents represent the authority of God in their lives; they must be led to not kill, cheat, rob, and lie or envy someone else’s things. Regarding righteousness, our children must know that God doesn’t bear unrighteousness and that one day He will judge men according to their work in their body (2 Cor. 5:10). Regarding holiness, they must realize that God is holy (1 Pet. 1:15-16) and to approach God they need to be holy and pure. Regarding love, they need to know that they will never love man apart from God because God is the true love. Regarding human culture, they need to relate well with people and learn good manners for a healthy living with them, especially those who are older. Parents must teach their children to say the following words: thank you, please, excuse me, sorry and other things related to abilities, virtues and human values. As parents we need to sit with our children and spend time with them teaching them how to relate themselves to God and men. In doing this, we will preserve our children as vessels so that they will 10

not be broken or filled with garbage. They will be prepared in this way for Christ to enter into them one day. May God bless us in such a special mission!
