The Chaps –Auckland Folk Festival
Auckland Folk Festival The Auckland Folk Festival is still going strong after 40 years, bringing the best in acoustic music and dance to an appreciative audience that keeps coming back for more. The festival is for families, and it’s a safe and friendly weekend where everyone is encouraged to join the talented guests and workshop presenters to make music, dance and be part of the entertainment. Special guest artists performing at the festival are Martin Curtis, The Chaps, Pacific Curls, Amira Grenell, Beverley and Al Young and The Pipi Pickers. Early bird tickets include entry to the festival over the whole weekend plus free camping. Day and evening passes are also available. All the programmed events are held in the marquees and Kumeu Hall. The site has lots of room to spread out and enjoy the long weekend, meet friends and make new ones. 25–28 January. New Zealand International Air Show The first ever New Zealand International Air Show over Auckland Anniversary Weekend will redefine the way aviation is presented to the public. It promises to be much more than an exhibition of aviation – air races and cutting–edge technology will put spectators into the cockpit and engage them in the pilot’s adrenaline rush. The headline act Yves Rossy, better known as the world’s top aviation stuntman Jetman, will bring a team of engineers to help him launch 5000ft from a helicopter, before landing by parachute at North Shore Airfield. A team of camera technicians will help spectators feel on board every step of the way, the ultimate experience for anyone who has ever dreamt about flying. 10am–5pm. 26–28 January.
