Cross-promotion is a form of marketing promotion where customers of one product or service are targeted with promotion of a related product. A typical example is cross-media marketing of a brand, for example Disney do not only make TV series but write books, make movies, feature in magazines and websites. Disney are diverse in what they make, their movies and episodes consist of comedy, drama, horror and much more. Disney link new ideas to market trends to know what social media is popular and think of what they can come up with which is unique. For example, they may look at Twitter and Facebook and ask themselves why they are successful and branch other avenues in making something new and different. They also think if these social media sites are suitable for children to use. Disney then came up with “Club Penguin” which is a multiplayer online game involving a virtual world containing a range of online games and activities which you can also socialize with people playing the game, like Facebook, Twitter etc.
Club Penguin Players use cartoon penguin-avatars and play in a winter-set virtual world. Disney takeover Marvel. Disney to buy Marvel in $5bn deal, this deal means Disney will take over ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters, such as Spider-Man and the X-Men. Marvel shareholders will get $30 per share in cash plus 0.745 Disney shares for every Marvel share owned. This means that could put Marvel’s 5,000 characters to work on its television channels and in video games, theme parks and movies. The agreed takeover is for a mixture of cash and stock, with Disney shares accounting around 40% of the buyout price. For example, Marvel’s characters, superhero Captain America, tend to get along well particularly well with teenage boys and young men, while Disney has been stronger in appealing to a female target audience. With Disney having such deep pockets, that means much more available funds to push movies into Disney’s production. Disney bought Marvel to use the property rights, not sit on them. This could mean that we can start seeing Marvel characters pushed into multiple forms of media. More cartoons, more comics, more live action TV shows and definitely more movies. Over the years Marvel have made successful movies such as Iron Man 3, Incredible Hulk, Thor, Marvel Avengers and many more. Throughout the journey, The Avengers’ came out on top as the highest-grossing movie from both brands, as it generated $1.5 billion. Also, Iron Man 3 has become the fifth highest grossing movie ever, and the 16th movie to make more than a billion dollars at the box office (around £650 million). Marvel are not really diverse because they stick to one genre, which is mostly action mainly because of all the superhero movies made. Disney are making a franchise of Marvel studios because Marvel are enabling Disney to carry out specified commercial activities by allowing them to recreate Marvel superheroes and design movies in there studios
