TRAVELS WITH THE MOUSE PRESENTS:

THE WILDS OF TIECENDIA

FEATURING THE HAVER WATER FARMS

HISTORY & CULTURE

“It’s not easy being green,” says Jan H’uck, the head of Tiecendia Tourism, laughing at the reaction he inspires in my photographer on the day we meet in his offce. “It’s either the green skin or the fangs.” He is laughing rather heartily now and I admit I take a step back myself. The fangs are intimidating, specially when anked by menacing red eyes. When dealing with the Tiecendians, it is hard to forget that they nd human esh appetizing. But Jan is all smiles and gracious to a fault while teaching us all about his beautiful Jan H’uck - Tourist Chief and historical city. DISCOVERY

CULTURE

A Robot Performs the Traditional Fire Dance If you are lucky, you might be present for one of Tiecendia’s more bizarre but beautiful traditions. You need luck because there is no schedule or plan or seasonal trigger to know when this event might take place. The Fire Dance is performed by the ubiquitous working robots at times and places of their choosing. And once they start, there is no stopping them. The only clue that something is about to happen is in the behavior of the robots themselves. All robots in the area will suddenly cease working then gather in an open space. There the robots set fire to any combustible material nearby and proceed to dance in the flames. The last robot to leave the flames is honored, and repaired, by his fellows before they all return to work. A strange and strangly lovely experience.
