Greenville County Featured Artist Ron Gillen In 2008 after a 40-year working career stretching from US Navy officer to architect, Ron was now ready to retire and rest, he thought; then he re-discovered watercolor painting. He had dabbled with it in the past and decided to get more serious about it as he found it to be challenging and engaging. The hobby has passionately emerged to include a studio located at Studio 201, 300 River Place, Greenville. He is mostly a self-taught painter, though he has studied with Mary Whyte of Charleston and Tony Couch of Georgia. Painting itself has been the easy part; marketing and promoting the artwork has been more challenging. His work has earned several local awards in both portraiture and landscapes. A recent work earned 2nd place and was chosen by the Mayor for purchase by the City of Greer in this year’s “Greer Through the Ages” art competition.

From the Publisher... Restaurant Picks I want all of you to enjoy our great restaurants, so each quarter I will be telling you where I think are the best places to eat. Oma-Lynns restaurant in Cowpens, SC. is just a little ways off I-85; best country steak I have ever eaten! Mrs. Johnson says it’s because she buys her meat locally, but between you and me I think it’s because she is just a great cook! Ps- great little antique shop in restaurant also. If its hamburgers and sweet potato fries you’re after, then right there in Greer, SC off Wade Hampton Blvd you can get the freshest tastiest hamburger in the Upstate. It’s called Fuddruckers, where you and the family can still eat without taking out a small loan. For all of you folks who want to empress that special someone, or for those who just like fine dining at its best and a step aboved all the rest , I recommend Larkins Steak House and High Cottons Restaurant. They offer a large assortment of wines , steaks , seafood and many other fine food choices you may want. The prices and service is excellent.
