When I first moved all my things into my room I was bored with the way the walls looked because it was just plain white but when I finally had the time to paint it. I chose the color purple; nothing to dark or to light. My room is something I call my “get away place”. It’s where I go when I don’t want to be bothered or to just hangout and listen to music. When I have company over they always compliment my room and the way it is arranged. They would always tell me how my room is so organized and clean but it’s only that way because to be honest I am very OCD when it comes to cleaning and rearranging things to how to I want it to look or where I would place certain things. Although If I was to change one thing about my room it would most likely have to be expanding my closet because I do have a lot of clothes and shoes but doesn’t every girl? If I was to compare myself to a musical instrument I would have to say a tuba because tubas are one of the loudest instruments and I too can be loud. As we drive up slowly towards the accident I automatically turn my head to see what had happened and to see who it was. Normally when I see car accidents as well as the people who were in the accidents I don’t usually know who the people until today. The person who was in the accident was my grandpa. As soon as I noticed who it was I immediately told my mom and we drove up to go and park. After we had parked, we rushed toward the scene of the crime and I ran toward my grandpa to check to see if he was okay but his eyes weren’t opening and he wasn’t being really responsive so they rushed him to the hospital and I rode along in the ambulance with him while my mom drove behind us. Right we get to the hospital he is immediately being rushed to a room to be checked on. The doctors had told my mom and I to sit in the waiting room. As I look around the waiting room I notice a clock and didn’t realize the time so, I told my mom that I needed to be at school because I had a project to take care and she said that it was alright for me to leave. Before I left the hospital I went to go look for my grandpa’s room number so that I can check to see how he’s doing. I asked the doctor what’s the status on him and they said we just need him to rest. After seeing my grandpa and talking to the doctor, I head back out to the waiting room to look for my mom and I see that she is talking to her friend who is one of the police officers that was at the crime scene. I looked at my mom and she said that her friend is going to escort me to school. And that is why I am about 40 minutes late to class.

Prompt #14: Telling Tales I don’t specially remember any of the stories that my family has told us especially coming from my crazy aunties. I do know that the stories they would tell us is about how they were when they were growing which is for entertainment which is funny but most of the time the stories they would tell us especially when they are talking to us older ones would be life lessons about what to expect in life, how to always follow our dreams, don’t anything that they won’t approve of or don’t something we won’t regret. I really do love hanging around my aunties because they always tell us things straight whether it be embarrassing or true because we always learn great things from them. I also like to listen to the stories my grandma has to tell us about how she and my grandpa first met, to when they started dating and when they got married this is a story I could never get tired of even if my grandpa denies that’s how they first met but I know if my nana was still around then would she probably embarrass my grandpa and then she would tell us the whole story from beginning to end.

Prompt #16: Personal Symbol I remember one Saturday afternoon after we were done doing our daily routine we had finished our chores and took a break. It was late in the afternoon and I had the urge to just go through some old photos from a long time ago even before I was born. So, as I was going through the photos I came across a picture of my nino Jay and I. When I looked at it I remember telling my mom that I remember everything that went on that day in the picture and she was surprised because in the picture I was only about 6 or 7 years old but then she said that I have a good long term and short term memory. As I looked at the picture once more all I could do was stare at my nino because he had this big smile upon his face as he was looking at me and so did I. Before I put the picture down I started to cry because it made me realize that I miss my nino so much more than I thought. Even as I am typing out this story I am crying. I really wish he was still around to see me graduate but I know that he will be watching from heaven. Part of the reason why I am putting so much stress on myself is because I made a promise to my nino that I will graduate on time and he promised me that he will be there to see me walk up on that stage to see me receive my diploma but now he will be watching me from heaven. The picture of my nino and I has so much sentimental to me that I can never part from it. I take that picture where ever I go so that I know he’s with me no matter where I am.

Prompt #23: Flashback If I could go back in time and relive any one day of my life it would have to be the last time I saw my nino. I don’t really remember the exact day that I last saw him but it was in summer 2010. I had volunteered to help my auntie out at a summer camp at San Vincente Catholic School which is where my brother and sister were enrolled for the summer as well. I thought that it was going to be a boring summer because I didn’t really know that much people that were there but the second day of summer camp I got called to the main office because I had to pick up something but it turns out that my nino was there to surprise me and it was the best surprise that I had ever gotten within that year also because I rarely see my nino because he lived down in Malesso’ and after that day I got to see my nino every day. Two weeks went by and it was the morning that the teachers had planned a fieldtrip for the kids to go to the movies and be away from the school for a day. I was relieved that we had a day to be away from the school. As I got dropped off to the school I was hoping to see my nino in the main office like how I usually do before I head to the classroom but I didn’t. I had asked my nina if he was at work today but she told me that he was at home because he was sick. After I finished talking to her I went to go and help the teachers gather up the kids and do a head count before we headed to the movies. When we arrived to the mall, I couldn’t help but have this strange feeling like something was wrong but I didn’t let it bother me. The movie was finally over and we did another head count of the kids before we headed back to the school. When we got to the school it was already almost time to leave so we all went into the classroom to wait for our rides. I sat down with my brother and his friends and we were playing cards but right behind us were all the teachers. I didn’t want to listen in on their conversation but I did anyway. The kindergarten teacher, who was actually my auntie, had started to ask a bunch of questions and when I looked up to turn around she was as in a state of shock. Seeing that look on her face made me worried. The middle school teacher whom I was helping asked me if I knew why my nina left and I said no I don’t. I didn’t want to know but she told me anyways. What she told me was that my nino had passed away. After I heard that I turned back to the table and continued to play cards. I wanted to cry right then and there but I held it in. A few rounds of playing cards and I looked up at the door and saw my mom walk in. I ran out the door and hugged my mom as I started to cry. A million of things running through my head wondering why had God taken my nino away from me. Later that night I called my god-sister to ask if she had heard the news and she told me yes. The day of the funeral as we finally put my nino to rest I stood over his coffin and started to cry because I was remembering all the great memories that he had made/shared with me ever since I was born and how he’s no longer going to be around to make new memories with me especially to see me

graduate from high school. Although he is no longer around I know he’s watching and guiding me every step of the way.

Prompt Picture

#29: This

Leonid Afremov is a Russian窶的sraeli modern impressionistic artist who works mainly with a palette knife and oils. Using his unique knife painting technique and unmistakable style Afremov creates paintings that seem to explode in a millions of bright colors. Afremov is one of the very few self-representing artist who promotes and sells his work exclusively over the internet with very little exhibitions and involvement of dealers and galleries. I love how his paintings are so colorful. I like how the sky is dark and yet it gets brighter as you make your way to look down at the bottom of the painting where all the buildings, the boats and the water is. To me it feels as if I am actually sitting in of those boats looking up at the beautiful sky.

Prompt #30: Look Who I Look Up To Rosa Parks is someone who I look up to because on December 1, 1995, she unexpectedly decided to sit up front where the blacks weren’t supposed to be sitting at so when the bus driver told her to move to the back she stood up for herself and said no. After she refused to do so she was arrested. Her act of defiance and the Montgomery Bus Boycott became important symbols of the modern Civil Rights Movement. She than became an international icon of resistance to racial segregation. She had organized and collaborated with civil rights leaders, that includes Edgar Nixon, president of the local chapter of the NAACP as well as with Martin Luther King Jr., a new minister in town who gained national prominence in the civil rights movement.

Prompt #31: Remembering the Child My mom said that one of her favorite memories of me when I was a little girl was how I was like a mother hen. Although I was only three at the time and my siblings were just a year or two younger than I, I would always make sure that they had everything they needed from having something to eat to making sure they had their clothes and pampers for after their baths. Every morning I would be up with my mom to help make breakfast and help her wipe up the little mess my baby sister would make with her baby cereal. There were times I would tell my little brother to make sure that he puts his toys away or when he was being disciplined I would scold him and tell him that he wasn’t allowed because he did something wrong. My mom would say I would try to say the same things she would say when he was being scolded and she would laugh because I would crinkle my nose and wave my finger with one hand on my hip. Mom always says she wishes we could still be little ones because of how we would always react when we discovered new things.
