Andros Blue Holes, All the main islands of the Bahamas have blue holes, but those in Andros are the best known. Andros has 178 on land with at least 50 in the sea. Blue holes can best be described as entrances to the intricate cave systems which run underneath the island and sea floor. Because the ocean blue holes are connected to those inland and even to those blue holes on the west side of the island, they are affected by the tides. The ocean blue holes will “blow” and “suck. The “blow” usually pumps out cold subterranean water which may be milky with hydrogen sulfide and algae, and during the “suck,” the water will be gin clear as it sucks in the surrounding sea water.

The Mangroves in Andros, various types of trees and shrubs that grow in the salty coastal waters of this island. Nature enthusiasts flock to Andros to view large swathes of mangroves that provide nursery and feeding areas for many species of marine life including snappers, shad, silversides, barracudas, lemon and bull sharks and the endangered sawfish.Tall, thick mangrove areas can be seen at the mouths of creeks, especially ones with well-defined channels, and at various creek interiors. The term “mangrove” is derived from Spanish (perhaps by way of Portuguese, and likely adapted from the indigenous Taino Indians who lived on Andros centuries ago). It was earlier “mangrow” from the Portuguese “mangue” or Spanish “mangle,” later on the word “grove” was incorporated.all species, some of the world’s deepest blue holes, and spectacular coral gardens and underwater caverns. AndrosMost of the major towns in Andros are scattered along its northeastern coast. Heading south, the settlements become more remote and are well worth a visit for palm-fringed beaches and warm and friendly people. Driggs Hill, Congo Town, and Kemp’s Bay are ideal for long walks among wild orchids and relaxing in hammocks under the palms.
