Denby Pottery Company Handcrafted by artisans for over 200 years Beautiful, Versatile & Durable denbypottery.com

Dear Readers, I have always been drawn to good design. An artist by training and an educator by trade, it was only a matter of time before my love for well-designed products collided with the need to take steps against climate change. This is why I created Bluepatch.Org, a website filled with beautiful, sustainable lifestyle products and services from across the British Isles. Blue Patch has exhibited at London Design Fair for three years now. Each of the displays has been a small peek into a platform where people are united by a common love for provenance and sustainability. Our businesses desire to make an impact while building deeper, more personal relationships with customers. This year, I am delighted to introduce to you our very first print catalogue. Within these pages you will discover talented brands and service providers, read about the people behind the products and discover rising stars in sustainable business. You'll also learn more about Blue Patch and all that we do. I hope you enjoy what we've created. Jane Langley September 2019

INVESTING IN RENEWABLE ENERGY Our ethos sets the Blue Patch Collective apart. Every penny of our profit funds renewable energy and conservation initiatives. This year we invested in Brighton Energy Cooperative’s Solar Schools. We also work with Tree Nation to plant trees for every member that joins or renews responding to the climate emergency in a practical way!

Our Blue Patch World

Blue Patch Gives Back Blue Patch is a social enterprise. 100% of our company profits are used to help the environment and create green jobs. We’re delighted to announce our first purchase of renewable energy shares in Brighton Energy Cooperative via Ethex, a platform that makes it easy to invest in good things! Brighton Energy focuses on community-owned renewable energy systems. This particular investment will support a Solar School in Sussex.

We’re so pleased that Blue Patch has become a member of Brighton Energy Coop. Social enterprises investing in one another to support financially robust and long-term community energy projects is not just about being sustainable - it makes financial sense too. We need to take action on the climate crisis, and we’re very grateful that Blue Patch have done just that. Will Cottrell, Chairman, Brighton Energy Coop.

We celebrate new members joining the Blue Patch Collective or renewing their membership by planting a tree in India through Tree-Nation, a citizen solution to climate change. The trees we chose are home to the endangered Slender Loris. Slender Loris suffer a threat from poachers due to the misplaced belief that these animals have magical and medicinal powers, and also due to the illegal pet trade.

The Blue Patch Sustainable Business Awards are a great opportunity for small businesses to get the recognition they deserve. Whether they adopt eco-friendly initiatives or are developing sustainable business practices that are better for the future of our communities and planet, I am thrilled to be on the judges panel to discover what they’ve been up to. As this award is free to enter, any company, no matter how small, can apply for the opportunity for this recognition. The award is a great way to encourage and inspire green initiatives for business that are forward-thinking enough to care. Oliver Heath Oliver Heath Design oliverheath.com

It’s such a pleasure to judge The Blue Patch Sustainable Business Awards. I’m always inspired and amazed by the brilliant businesses that apply and often add them to my personal list of ones to watch or support. The awards are a great way not only to gain credibility for your business but also to gain exposure and meet new likeminded people in your industry. The Blue Patch collective is all about supporting and creating together and these awards are a big part of that legacy. Whether it’s creating positive social change within a community or coming up with innovative ways to support the circular economy, if you’re in business to make an impact then these awards need to be on your radar. From Yorkshire to New York

Well done Bluepatch for being on the leading edge of the curve. And thanks for promoting Laura’s Loom. I have to say that of all the groups I’ve joined (and left) over the years the only group that I feel really cares about my business is Blue Patch. You’re always finding ways to help promote your members, in a way that I haven’t experienced with any other marketing group. It makes being a member more than worthwhile. So many thanks for that too.

Laura of Laura’s Loom, an artisan weaver from Sedbergh in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales won the Blue Patch New Heritage Award in 2017. This was presented at London Design Fair, which led to Laura taking a look around and deciding to exhibit on the Blue Patch stand in 2018. Laura’s beautifully woven blankets were an instant attraction, with visitors stepping in to the display to run their hands over them admiringly. Nina from Top Hat, an artisanal store in New York , spotted Laura’s work at London Design Fair and had this to say: ‘I do actually remember seeing it for the first time very clearly – something very quiet in a loud place. The blankets are so beautiful, we’re very happy to have them with us in New York – also a very loud place. I imagine the eventual owners will feel something of the magic with which they were made.’

What our members have to say

I love Blue Patch’s energy, It’s the ‘go get em girls’ we don’t take no for an answer, I bloody love it. For me this is hugely inspirational and nothing is impossible.
