OUR GRASS-ROOTS CLUBBERS ARE DOTTED ACROSS THE UK. EACH MONTH THEY TELL IT LIKE IT IS. BRINGING YOU NIGHTLIFE KNOW-HOW DIRECT FROM THEIR MANORS

SOUTHAMPTON JANE BAKER

CARDIFF WILL GILGHASS ' A decade ago, Cardiff was immortalised by Human Traffic as a I city that reached for the lasers, partying hard every weekend. Today, the quality of clubbing is less consistent, though there are some nuggets worth seeking out C-Y-N-T leads the way; its weekly Thursday night at Clwb Ifor Bach showcasing some of the best up-and-coming talent in the UK - Borgore, Raffertie and Tom Starr all featuring recently. Then each month it also welcomes the big guns to town, with the likes of Annie Mac, Fake Blood and Beardyman all regulars on the roster. Other bass-driven relief can be found at the f Cardiff International Arena, which occasionally houses massive touring acts, while Cardiff University SU becomes Bedlam for big drum and bass line-ups. The Cardiff Arts Institute offers some interesting leftfield options, from rapping doo-wop groups spitting over dubstep to Senegalese drummers, but unless you walk in with an undercut and a bow tie you're greeted with glares of disbelief (the walls are adorned with washing-up gloves after all!) The nocturnal landscape of the Welsh capital is dominated by Oceana and trendy cocktail bars - but for those with their ears close to the floor, something —^^ is at least stirring in the underground.

DORITOS PRESENTS: PROFESSOR GREEN 'COMINGTO GET ME' Wherever you stand on Pro Green's music, you can now stand anywhere you like in his music video, thanks to some awesome 360-degree filming.

30 JANUARY 2011

With clubs like Junk and Orange Rooms playing host to big names like Kissy Sell Out and Fake Blood, Southampton is a perfectly grimy place to find some of the filthiest new music on the scene. There's no place better to sweat it out than with the city's legions of hardcore raving students on the Junk club floor. When you add Wax nights at new club Audio every Wednesday, it's almost impossible to escape the talent taking over the town, with recent line-ups including the likes of Plastician and DJ Fresh. Reflex is one to avoid unless your idea of fun is attending a drunken indoor circus. You'll be peeling your feet off the floor like Velcro, but it's the perfect night out for fans of the Glee soundtrack. Wahoo invites you to a rammed venue every time, especially on Fridays and Sundays, but make sure you're drunk enough to ignore the DJs, who can barely mix a cake recipe let alone a record. Although the clubs are quite small, Southampton's a guaranteed good night out as the venues offer the sort of atmosphere you need to rave like you were born to. And if none of that tickles yourfancy, kebab «^~ street is just around the corner. y ^t "ft 1
