Seasons greetings and welcome to our Christmas Fine Art Auction. It was only a few months ago, back in October that the international art and antiques market focussed on our picturesque corner of Derbyshire. Records were once again set with some notable highlights such as the 1960's Rolex GMT wristwatch discovered amongst the contents of a deceased estate at £12,500 and the fabulous Highland cattle oil by Louis Bosworth Hurt at £17,500. Focusing on our festive offerings, we are delighted to offer treasures from the estate of an eminent Hong Kong lawyer. An exquisite collection of sporting art, silver and works of art recently discovered after many years shrouded under dust covers. The auction has a wonderfully British country feel to it with equestrian and sporting art in abundance, taxidermy, fine sporting guns, fishing equipment and to tantalise the tastebuds - wines and spirits. For those wanting to make their Christmas sparkle there are some dazzling jewels including a Victorian diamond set tiara and a great array of precision watches by revered brands. We invite you to come and peruse the Lots on offer and join us in the festive celebrations with drinks and canapés served on Monday 19th from 4.30pm to 6pm. Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year. GlOSSAry OF PiCtUre CAtAlOGUiNG termS A work catalogued with the forename(s) and surname or recognised designation of an artist in our opinion is or is probably a work by the artist. Nevertheless, intending buyers are reminded that while a full designation is our highest category of authenticity, no unqualified statement as to authorship is made or intended. A full cataloguing does not necessarily imply a full warranty. Attributed to… in our opinion a work of the period the artist which may be in whole or in part the work of the artist. Studio of… In our opinion a work of an unknown hand, which may have been executed in the studio of the artist. Circle of… In our opinion a work from the period of the artist and showing his influence. Follower of… In our opinion a work executed in the style of the artist but not necessarily by a pupil. manner of… In our opinion a work executed in the style of the artist but of a later date. After… In our opinion a copy of any date after a work by the artist. Signed / Sealed / inscribed In our opinion the work has been signed / sealed / inscribed by the artist. Bears / with signature, inscription, date In our opinion the signature / inscription / date are not by the hand of the named artist. The term ‘ascribed to’ may in certain cases be used to denote a traditional attribution based on style, though this attribution is not necessarily confirmed by the auctioneers. A work catalogued as ‘School’ accompanied by the place and a date means that in our opinion the work was executed at that time and in the location, eg. Continental School, circa 1920. All references to signatures, inscriptions and dates refer to the present state of the work, i.e. as at the time of inspection for the purpose of cataloguing. Artists resale rights Certain lots may be subject to Artists Resale Rights (living or deceased artists within 70 years that fetch over 1,000 Euros hammer price). In which case a 4% surcharge will be payable by the purchaser in addition to the buyers’ premium and live bidding fees where applicable. The fee will be added to the purchaser’s invoice and forwarded to the relevant body. 78
