64* WWI Letters. A group of approximately 20 letters, postcards, Christmas card and assorted ephemera, exchanged between teacher Edith Langley (Edie) and her fiancé C.W.S. (Charlie) Barber, and other family members, 1914-19, including letters from Charlie in France and from Edie to Charlie, including (30 April 1915), letter from Edie telling Charles that she has joined the Women’s Emergency Corps, letters from Charlie including (17 December 1914) saying that he has a regimental number (44204), a letter (4 January 1916) noting that no. 4 are moving to a new location and that ‘very few patients left now’, a letter (23 December 1917) describing Christmas in hospital, a letter (11 February 1918) from no. 4 General Hospital, BEF, France, noting that he is now promoted to Sergeant, a letter (30 November 1918) with a postscript ‘Thanks be the slaughter is over’, the last letter from 18 June 1919 discussing wedding arrangements and being given extra leave, mostly written in ink, various sizes C.W.S. Barber enlisted with the RAMC 1914-1919 and was at no. 4 General Hospital BEF/Red Cross in northern France. (a folder) £150 - £200
