Copper-T Ranch Bull Catalogue 22/23

T Ranch is a purebred Polled Hereford operation, located on the north shore of Fraser Lake. We annually sell two year old bulls, replacement heifers, feeder animals and 4H/Junior show prospects. We take great pride in developing seedstock, and believe in focusing on conformation, performance and functionality. We are our own toughest critics and hold our herd, and sale bulls, to high culling standards. Our high cull rates ensure that any bull we sell, is from a strong family and is of the quality we would be proud to walk ourselves! This is one of the reasons why we only sell 2 year old bulls, as it allows us to create a fully developed, strong and predictable product that is ready to go straight to work.

Sale Format





This is a private-treaty sale with a “First choice” silent bid-off!

Bulls are available for viewing at the Ranch by appointment.

After November 1st the pen is “Open for Sale” we will be accepting offers, in-person, by phone, or email. 



To partake in the “First choice” silent bid-off, ALL offers must be submitted by November 20th.

Each animal is assigned a price. If multiple parties place an offer on an animal, those parties will be contacted and a silent bidding process will commence between the interested parties in $250 increments, the animal will then be sold to the highest offer. 



On November 21st, bulls with offers will be dealt with in order from most action to least. 



Unsuccessful bidders will thus have the opportunity to place an offer on any remaining bulls at that point if they choose.

After November 21st all remaining bulls will sell privately in a “First come first served” basis.

Sale Terms & Conditions:



Payment: 50% holding deposit at time of selection is required and remaining 50% before animal leaves Copper-T Ranch. 

All bulls are sold with the condition that they will remain at Copper-T Ranch until completion of semen test in March 2023. Unless other arrangements have been agreed upon.  Sale price is all inclusive, there will be no extra charges for wintering, registration transfers, semen testing, or any medication given while in our possession. 

All animals are selling under the terms and conditions of the Canadian Hereford Association; all animals are registered and will be transferred upon completion of payment.

Guarantee:



All Bulls are sold with a breeding and soundness guarantee. 

If your selected bull gets injured or fails semen or soundness evaluation before leaving Copper-T a full return of your deposit is refunded or transferred to an available bull of your choice.  Bulls will be semen tested and evaluated by a certified veterinarian in March 2023 before they leave the ranch.  Should something happen to your purchase during the first breeding season, we will work with you to ensure your cows get bred!

Wintering:



All bulls regardless of purchase date will remain at Copper-T Ranch for continued development and winter feeding free of charge until April 1, 2023. Unless other arrangements have been agreed upon.  Boarding fee of $8/day will apply after April 1st, all bulls must be picked up by June 1st, 2023.  Insurance is highly recommended, but all risk will remain with Copper-T Ranch until April 1st.

Directions:

Copper-T Ranch – 8212 Stella Road: From Highway 16, turn on to Stella Road (a hard right before the Esso Station on the Stellat’en Reserve). The Ranch Yard is located only 4 km down Stella Road on the left hand side. Look for the big red and white buildings.

Delivery:

We offer free delivery of your purchase(s) within 200 km of Fraser Lake, BC. For buyers who live farther away or out of province we will do our best to personally provide or work with you to arrange cost effective transport and ensure your bull arrives safely and in a timely manner.

Cattle with Proven Pedigrees and Statistics:

Copper-T Ranch reports complete and accurate animal performance data to the Canadian Hereford Association and in doing so we have been recognized as a 7 star breeder. To achieve and maintain this status we send in data from all our registered cattle. Data includes: birth weights, calving ease, weaning and yearling weights, scrotal size, cow weights, teat, udder and body condition scores. For our own knowledge we also collect weights throughout the year so we can closely monitor our young stock’s Average Daily Gain data. We are pleased to share all of our performance information with you on request. Testing for genetic abnormalities, GE EPD profiling and Horn/polled gene testing has been completed on all of these bulls!

Cattle with Health Benefits:

Our calves are not raised on creep supplements. Their weaning weights are a direct reflection of their genetic merits performing on their dam’s milk and natural pasture forages. Our sale bulls are run on native pasture as yearlings then developed on a steady, balanced, forage based ration, with the condition, health and longevity of the animal being our top priority. We are committed members of the Verified Beef Production Plus program and have been for over fifteen years. All our animals are vaccinated with: Pyramid FP5 + Presponse SQ and Vision 8 Somnus w/spur, and are treated topically with Solmectin pour-on. Sale bulls are also vaccinated against Foot rot (Fusoguard) and Pinkeye (Maxiguard) to give them added protection during their first working season. All bulls will be semen tested by a veterinarian in early March and you will receive a copy of the semen certificate along with a health record showing the animal’s full health history upon purchase.

Do we sell yearling bulls?

We decided long ago that we wanted to sell 2 year old bulls as we felt they are a more developed, predictable product that cattleman appreciate the added benefits . You cannot create good 2 year old bulls if you have sold all your best as yearlings! So no, we do not sell bull calves or yearling bulls! Our bulls go through a strict culling process, not all bulls we raise make it to the sale pen. Our herd consists of around 90 mother cows. At time of birth we castrate any male calves over 100lbs as well as any that are from females with characteristic flaws. The bull calves that carry forward need to perform well on grass! We take a “turn out” weight in June and calculate ADG at weaning in October. All bull calves must meet our growth standard at weaning time; if they do not meet our growth expectations they are castrated. Weaned bull calves are then put into a pen setting for a 180 day feeding period, they are weighed and measured monthly. They are developed on a forage based diet with a custom bull development ration fed at less then 1% of body weight. At the end of the feeding period another culling day happens to weed out any bulls that did not gain efficiently in a pen setting, as well as any that do not meet yearling scrotal requirements or that came forward with disposition or conformation issues over the winter. We then, instead of selling them, turn our yearling bulls out on pasture in May. We make them travel! We put their feet and joints to the test! They play, they buck, they run, they pace the fences! A full evaluation of these long yearling bulls takes place in October: how did they gain on grass over the summer? Feet? Scrotal? Joints? Temperament? Workability? At this point any bull that we would not purchase ourselves to walk in our own herd gets culled from our sale pen and simply gets sold as ground beef! So please take assurance that all the bulls you will find in our sale pen this winter are bulls that we are proud of and would use ourselves. They have met or exceeded expectations and we are confident they will work well for you and make a profitable impact on your herd!
