Welcome to the 16th Annual Family Tradition Bull Sale First and foremost whether you are a new customer or long term partner, thank-you for taking the time to look through our catalogue and for considering a High Bluff Stock Farm bull as your next herdsire. To meet the variety of our customer needs we have on offer yearlings and two year olds, easy calvers and performance bulls in both the Charolais and Simmental breeds. No matter their age or colour all have been selected for disposition, hair and sound structure. This year has been an exciting year for the Canadian beef industry with the signing of the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) that gains Canadian beef further access to numerous significant markets, such as Japan. High quality Canadian beef is in hot demand, and that demand is expected to grow, what an exciting time to be in our industry! We had a wonderful time on the show road this year as always getting to connect with fellow beef producers. At Ag-Ex we were humbled to receive Premier Breeder and Exhibitor on the Charolais side and to have stood out alongside a great set of cattle in the Champion Heifer and Bull Calf classes at the National Simmental Show. EGC Red Lashes, off of the 2 year old bull Driller, was the Champion in the Little Lady Classic and also brought home a banner from the Agribition Simmental Show - we are excited to say the least about this new herdsire. On the family front we were blessed to welcome two grandchildren over the last year, a joy that is certainly hard to put into words. We are honoured to have our family engaged in agriculture either on the farm or out in industry. Our operation just wouldn’t be the same without their hard work and dedication. Please join us on the farm in Inglis on sale day and as always we are happy to tour you through anytime before the sale as well. The Tradition Continues, Carman & Donna & Family

Sales Management Comments The High Bluff name goes synonymously with a quality product, as good as is offered within the bull sale business. The family’s passion for agriculture and being trailblazing “Ag-vocates” is well documented with their efforts, as a voice for fellow agriculture producers, through their attendance at conferences, hosting delegations and the girls working off farm in agriculture related fields that are driven to the betterment of farmers and ranchers. The cattle, crops and comaraderie are their lifelines for existence! I can attest to the impressiveness of the cowherd from summer pasture tours at High Bluff and I believe that you can’t fully appreciate the full genetic quality of the bulls offered for sale until one has had this experience. On the Charolais side of things, matching with this great cowbase, herdbulls have been a serious acquisition process and you will see that nearly all the Charolais Bulls on offer are sired by the herdsires that the Jacksons have sourced or were past high sellers in this sale or thru an exclusive semen package opportunity. This year’s sale is strongly represented by the Father/Son duo of Triumph 2135 & Triumph 50B (affectionately known as “Cook”). As you work your way thru the bull pen, I’m sure you’ll see a common denominator in that you will be “marking” many of the “Cooks” and “Triumphs”! If you are looking for a bit more convenience with calving ease, check out the “Broncos”. In each of their own respective sale years, “Casanova” and “Zorro” were high sellers and have some top sons incorporated. The two herdsires sourced out of the fantastic Northern Alberta cowherd of Kay-R Charolais, “Flurry” and “Testament”, will be bulls that will be backed by one of the most eye appealing, good uddered and uniform Charolais cowherds in Canada! For those of you that have had the economic fortune to own poundmaking sons of “HD” in the past, a couple more will be available this year along with a couple sons of “Escobar” who has really “clicked” in the past with the High Bluff cowherd. Now, moving into the Simmi bulls, more of an approach through the methods of “A.I.” has been taken to make these quality sire groups. “Grand Fortune” has the maternal values of “Black Casino” who also sired the foundation breed sire “Black Joker, is in his DNA. The Red Bulls contain two sire groups that promote calving ease lines with the North Dakota bred “Rambler” and the former Edmonton Farmfair Supreme Champion Bull, “Red Summit”. The High Bluff breeding program is directed to making the best possible bulls for the commercial cattlemen but interestingly enough when they make the effort for some additional promotional benefits and head out to compete with their fellow breeders in the show ring, they are usually found atop of their respective classes and quite often when the dust settles they are hanging banners and posing in the champion photo area! Please join us at the Jackson Farm in “the suburbs” of Inglis for a comfortable, well hosted, family oriented bull sale. If you can’t make it personally but would like appraisals on the bulls and bidding/buying assistance, give any of our cell phones a call. Our order-buying service is free to you, is highly reputable for its trustworthiness, and has been a successful outlet for many busy cattlemen and cattlewomen to purchase their herdbulls in an absentee role. The Triumph sons are really popular with commercial cattle people and it’s easy to see why with the thickness, length of body, style and functionality they possess. Flagstaff is a standout in the bull pen, a powerful individual that is backed by strong weaning and yearling weights. His depth and length of body are hard to beat. Backed by a moderate sized cow family with longevity and a lot of middle.

February 12 2018
Fairmont is a top prospect in this powerful Triumph sire group, and one of our favorites in the pen. Check out his weaning and yearling weights, hard to beat those! Fairmont is impressive and possesses that herd bull presence. He has an excellent body type, is structurally correct, smooth but dense made, has an impressive top and hind quarter and is SUPER hairy. We had him in our Agribition show string where he was the Reserve Champion Junior bull calf. He has a great temperament and was quick to halter break. We’ll tell you a couple times in this catalog that our HD cows raise some of our best herd bulls, and what a place to start! This pair has been a standout all year and in our eyes this bull keeps on getting better and better. His dam is a good-looking, good uddered cow that is part of the Stone Angel cow family. Her dam is 128W, one of our most consistent producing cows who has an Escobar bull in this years sale. A powerful herd bull in the making backed by some of our favorite and most consistent genetics along with curve bending yearling and weaning weights. When searching for a herd bull, Fairmont checks all the boxes!

Don’t miss out on taking a closer look at this future herd sire! Why do we like Triumph calves so much? Because they are stylish, well balanced, nicely muscled and so CONSISTENT. The last couple years we have had strong pens of Triumph and Triumph 50B bulls but this one might be the strongest one yet! Fort Worth has that herd bull presence, tracks well, and is super wide quartered and topped. He is out of one of Erin’s favorite cows, a top notch Esperenza daughter, who raised El Dorado the yearling bull we showed this fall. Don’t miss out on taking a closer look at this bull and his dam. Looks like she did it again! 4U cranked out another powerful herd sire candidate, a full brother to El Paso our $37,000 high seller from last year to Steppler Charolais. We sure think a lot of him and like him more each time we see him in the pen. He has that undeniable herd sire presence and a fantastic temperament. We really admire the Harvie’s Wanda cow family and were very pleased a few years ago at the Friday Night Lights Sale that we had the chance to purchase Wanda 83A, the granddam of Forbes. We appreciate the cow family especially for their beautiful udders and hoof size and structure. We went to the Harvie’s dispersal this year with the full intent of adding more Wanda genetics to our herd but the word was out and the two Wanda cows topped their sale! Wanda 83A is the granddam of Forbes and we love his dam, Wanda 49D for the exact same reasons. She’s a young cow with a lot of potential as can be seen in her first calf on the ground. Forbes is a nicely balanced calf with a stacked pedigree on both sides of the equation. He was a member of our show team this fall standing at the top of his class at the National Simmental Show.

Here’s a standout in the pen from an impressive sire group! We’re always really happy with the calving ease and performance that comes from Red Summit. We have successfully used him in our heifer pen, and really appreciate the grow the calves have and what a heifer can wean in. Check out the yearling weights of the Red Summit bulls for yourself if you need more convincing. ¾ are off of heifers and as a sire group top the Simmental yearling weaning weights and give the Charolais sire groups a run for their money. Fitzgerald is a powerful red bull with lots of performance and testicle size, good length of body, and overall balance. He is a nice headed, hairy, well put together bull with that herd bull look. EGC 30D is a deep bodied female with a bit of extra power from her sire, Dr. Stan, and her dam.

Check out that money stripe on Five Star. We sure like it and the buyers at the auction markets like it even more. Five Star has been a standout from birth. He has that herdbull presence in a well put together package. Expect calving ease and consistency from this Wallbanger bull. There is good reason why Wallbanger has been so widely used in the Simmental breed. This is 102A’s 4th bull in the bull sale in 4 years, with maternal brothers working for Travis Moore, Gra-Tan Ranch and Larry Cockerill. Homo Polled. Triumph has turned out to be a great breeding bull for us. He produces cattle that are right for the times. Triumph possesses a lot of traits we look for in our cattle: lots of capacity, a big wide top line that carries right down the quarter, sound structure, easy keeping, and a good disposition. He passes these traits onto his progeny. Triumph is homozygous polled, and calves extremely well - to date, all of the Triumph calves on our farm have been born unassisted. Triumph’s sire, Tuffy, was selected as a multi-trait leader in the US spring sire summary. We co-own Triumph with Triple C Charolais and he is in the top 1% in weaning weight, and top 2% in yearling weight in Canadian EPD rankings. We are really happy with our Triumph daughters. They are smooth, long sided, feminine looking cows with excellent udders. We welcome you to take a tour through our cows to see for yourself.
