FROM CRIBS TO COLLEGE, 1 WE SERVE KIDS IN FOSTER CARE.
Christmas Giving From cribs to college, James Storehouse supports children in foster care and those aging-out of foster care by providing resources that will ease transitions and improve living conditions. Since children in the foster care system are more susceptible to challenges such as homelessness, substance abuse, and lack of education, James Storehouse seeks to facilitate systemic change in the Ventura and Los Angeles counties by advocating on behalf of the underserved and underprivileged youth.
While this group needs our help 365 days of the year, the holiday season is an especially wonderful time to give. In this catalog you will find a variety of items that we often receive as requests and other ways that we can support this deserving community. All donations are tax deductible, and certificates are available if you are interested in donating an item in someone’s name as a unique holiday present. As you consider giving this holiday season, we hope that you will remember James Storehouse and the precious foster babies, children, and youth we serve.
When they succeed, we all succeed.
Sponsor a foster child - $35/month Foster youth living in group homes often lack the basic necessities that stable families provide. Your recurring monthly donation will provide birthday and holiday gifts for a child, and contribute to a larger “nest egg” that will be given to them once they no longer have the option for communal housing. If you are interested in this option, please be sure to opt for “recurring donation” online.
Emergency Starter Kit - $55 When the lives of foster children are in constant upheaval, the last thing they should worry about is whether or not they can brush their teeth at night. Starters kits encompass all the basic resources a youth would need- from pajamas and blankets to deodorant and floss- in order to make their first nights in a new home feel comfortable and safe.
Night at the movies for a group home - $150 Provide eight foster youth with the opportunity to enjoy a fun night out! Your gift supplies movie tickets, popcorn, and a drink.
Case of Diapers - $40 Government care programs do not cover diapers, and many families cannot afford the steep price of purchasing them in bulk. Since diapers are a necessity, many under-resourced foster families have to choose between covering the cost of utilities and purchasing diapers. This gift means peace of mind for struggling families and happier, healthier babies.
Can of Formula - $20 Provide the nutrition a foster baby needs so that they can grow up to be a strong, healthy and dynamic agent of change in our community.
Baby crib & mattress - $200 Help expedite the emergency placement of a baby into a safe and loving home by providing a safe crib and mattress.
Twin mattress with bedding - $185 Our foster babies are not the only ones that need a safe place to sleep! Bedding for kids of all ages is essential for families looking to foster children.
Car Seat - $200 Keep our precious kiddos safe in the car! The number of requests for car seats we receive is far greater than the amount we have available each month.
Bunk bed - $460 Too often, siblings become separated when foster families only have resources for one child. Bunk beds ensure that families are kept together, which helps lower experiences of PTSD, anxiety and depression for children in the foster care system. This gift includes the bed frame, two twin mattresses, and bedding.
Bed in a bag - $50 Help a foster child feel at home from day one! Make it easy for a child to transition to a loving foster home with a bed in a bag.
Bike, helmet, and lock - $155 Lack of adequate transportation impacts both the physical and the economic security of many youth in the Ventura County. With the gift of a bike, a child can get to school on time, secure the job they need, and enjoy the freedoms of being a teen!
Kitchen starter pack - $55 Help foster youth make the transition to adulthood with furnishings for a new apartment! Kitchen starter kits provide the food preparation essentials that young adults need when they are learning to live on their own.
Bibles (Spanish or English) 2 for $40, 4 for $75, or 6 for $110 Give the ultimate gift of hope to a foster family or group home. Many of the kids and adults we serve have never had a Bible of their own. 5
Backpack & School Supplies - $50 When children are placed with new foster families, they only come with the clothes on their backs. Scrambling to find new school supplies sets children behind in school. Access to backpacks and schoolbooks help children not just get by, but thrive in school.
Disneyland Trip $120 for 1 ticket, reunite siblings for $240 Help us give foster children a day they will never forget at the happiest place on earth! Purchasing 2 tickets would even allow us to reunite siblings that have been separated as a result of the placement process.
