ICT Newsletter September 2010

ICT Newsletter Dear Parents, As we begin a new year of school, there are a few important changes to let you know about. Firstly, starting this week, Wall of Fame and Writer of the Week photographs will be posted on the School Blog, instead of the website. Existing photographs from the past two years will remain on the website as an archive, but it makes more sense for our regular updates to be all in one place. Placing them on the blog also means that subscribers will get the posts delivered directly to them, which brings me on to my second point. We love to let you know about the many and varied activities that go on in school, and that's why we want to make it even easier for you to get the information we post on our blog. With everything that you have to do as a parent, it is easy to forget to check there every week, but did you know you can get our blog posts delivered directly to you? There are two ways of doing this: 1. By email - simply visit our blog at http://earlsohamschool.blogspot.com/, type your email address in the box on the right of the blog page and click subscribe. Then whenever a new entry is posted you will receive an email to keep you up to date. 2. By RSS - If you use a feed reader, such as Google Reader, you can subscribe via RSS. Just click the Subscribe in a reader link on the right of the blog to get started. Please subscribe to our posts so you don't miss any of the exciting things that happen, and keep up with any last-minute notices. Thirdly, all children will be given access to a school email address this year. Using email is an important part of everyday life for many of us, and is certainly a valuable tool in the business world. We want our children to be comfortable with using email and understand how to use it safely. Internet safety is very important to us as a school and using email safely will form a part of the e-safety lessons that the children receive in class. Email addresses will be in the form username@earlsoham.suffolk.sch.uk. Stringent filtering of spam and viruses is in place, but children will be taught how to deal with messages of this type appropriately, as well as the correct ‘netiquette’ for sending emails. Finally, if you would like to help us to become more eco-friendly and reduce the amount of paper we send out by receiving your school letters via email, please complete your email address at the bottom of this form and return it to the school office. Yours faithfully James Mansell ICT Coordinator
