JAMMING FOR HIGH LOADS

Recent development in rope manufacture has centred on the use of blended covers, where high tech fibres such as Aramid, Technora, Dyneema or Vectran are co-braided with polyester or polypropylene. Whilst hardwearing, with a high degree of heat resistance, these covers can be harder to hold in clutches or jammers compared to polyester covered lines. Contact the Special Projects Team for advice on new digital custom jaw surfaces to suit specific blended covers.

Lines 8-32mm (5/16-1 1/4) Loads up to 12000kg (26400lbs) Use the ZS series for larger diameters and high loads with controlled release

The tiller extension for competitive helming

More feedback - for accurate and precise control

Designed for the hardest conditions, to reduce the strain and increase the sheer enjoyment of helming Used on Figaro and Mini Transat boats up to Open 60s

More mobility - maintains the best helming position for optimum trim and visibility Less fatigue - correct helming position reduces back pain and improves concentration Asymmetric grip fits the hand and supports the wrist on or off the wind Two handed helming mode lets the arms relax into a more comfortable, elbows-down position Push-button adjustment with Torlon™ ball locking mechanism Strongly engineered stainless steel swivel joint for precise control Removable fast pin for easy stowage Integral shock absorber For more grip use EA/900SG or add E-GRIP to upgrade

Flexxwall

SPINLOCK INDUSTRIAL

SHEER BRILLIANCE IN C A B L E D G L A S S FA C A D E S

F L E X X WA L L F E AT U R E S Spinlock load holding technology is used increasingly in advanced fibre cable solutions for other industries, as many of the proven performance advantages of tensile fibre rope over stainless steel cable become better known.

OTHER SPINLOCK INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS INCLUDE: Site Safety equipment and systems Deep water platform mooring

Flexxwall, is a new fast-build architectural faรงade system manufactured by Spinlock Structures Ltd. Flexxwall uses intelligent, high tensile fibre cable to support any glass panel array.

Temporary military structures

The high transparency of a Flexxwall structure comes from eliminating all the thermal compensation materials required in glass-to steel structures. Fibre cables weigh 75% less than equivalent strength steel cable, are free from corrosion and have a minimal coefficient of expansion.

Other favourite upgrade ideas...

Clean Up & Go sailing! • Wait till silicone begins to cure before removing any surplus • Brush away and safely dispose of all debris, above and below deck • Prepare fill and gelcoat any visible holes

For any upgrade project, particularly for bringing lines back to the cockpit, it would be well worth asking your local Spinlock rigger or dealer for their advice before you start. Neater Furling Lines: our low-profile furling leads reduce line friction and keep the side deck safe and tidy. (Ref: WL page 48)

Fast Sail Guides: smooth and fast mainsail and headsail operation with alloy roller feeders, simple to fit to any mast or foil. (Ref: RF page 52)

Finer Helming: our push-button tiller extensions reduce the strain and increase the sheer enjoyment of helming your boat. (Ref: E series page 42)

Much Easier Cleating: trim and de-power all hand operated lines with our effortless lock and release camcleat. A simple adaptor plate fits any standard cam cleat holes. (Ref: PXR page 14) • Replace any head linings • Re-run lines • With clean hands, fix clutch handle labels to read clearly from the cockpit step ... then, go sailing as soon as possible and start enjoying the difference!

3 Mark Out and Drill 1 Mark out Before drilling any holes, position new equipment to the new deck plan, with organisers bisecting the angle of the line between mast and winch, main & headsail clutches closest to the centre line for easiest winching, and as far forward of the winch as they can be easily worked from the cockpit.

4 Bolt Down • Fill any spare holes with a recommended resin filler • Insert bolts into the unit • Apply sealant sparingly in, and around the edge of, each hole • Push bolts through the silicone to seal the thread

2 Drill the holes • Mark the final position by pencil line, or tape around the base of the unit • Then mark and drill the first hole only and temporarily insert a bolt before marking the next hole through the unit. It pays to drill a pilot hole first • Rotate the unit clear after marking and before drilling each hole. Never drill through the unit • Re-position the unit and check that all bolts are correctly aligned

• Part-tighten all nuts evenly, leaving the sealant to set before final tightening • Organisers: check that all sheaves turn freely

TIP Take special care to keep the drill square to the deck

TIP Always use washers or a backing plate

1 Getting started: what to do first Planning • Decide which halyards and control lines need improving

2 Clear away all old items • First, carefully remove head linings in required areas

• Choose the right sizes of new organisers, clutches and fixing bolts from the Spinlock brochure or www.decklayout.com • Check useful space saving options like ‘stacking’ organisers and side mounting • Plan the new layout on the deck, (you’ll find product templates on our web site & dimensions on page 62) • Check the length of existing fastenings • Allow an extra organiser sheave for possible future lines and space for an extra clutch • Careful planning, and a second pair of hands, will make the project faster and easier!

TIP Double check your line diameter before ordering new hardware

Tools & materials • A good quality screwdriver of the right size • Stainless bolts sized for the new hardware • ‘Sharp’ drill bits for bolt and pilot holes • A power drill

• Remove nuts and washers from the existing bolts. Before unscrewing the bolts from above, they may be loosened by hammering gently from below • When all bolts are free, remove deck gear, protecting the gelcoat from tools • Remove old sealant from the area using a sharp blade or thinners

• Ring spanners, wrenches or socket set • Good quality silicone sealant • Colour-matched gelcoat • Appropriate protective clothing • + your general boat tool box

How to Upgrade your Deck • Add extra clutches • Bring lines back to the cockpit • Replace outdated clutches & deck gear • Remove redundant equipment • Plan a neater layout • Update to the latest spec. Spinlock clutches, organisers and blocks
