Two avenues funnel movement into the area, channeled by the impenetrable wall of old side-byside industrial buildings. Creating an opening in the unbroken wall invites the masses in and a point of convergence is established. Inspired by the actions of wind - a major factor in ballooning - converging forces drive an upward movement, as people converge they are taken on a journey upwards... PROJECT: Headquarters for Hot Air Balloon Company | Medium-scale Commercial | No Budget LOCATION: 404 Batman St, West Melbourne (Mixed-use zoning) SUBJECT: Design Studio 3 (AIR)


TRANSITION HOUSE is a visual and experiential mediator between the dense urban environment and the preserved natural system; facilitating the journey between the urban artifice and nature. Through the planning, spatial layout and facade design the building communicates the processes that exists at the site - the presence of a unique threshold between urban and nature.

PROJECT: Research Facility and Freestanding Viewing Platform | No Budget LOCATION: Self-conceived Conceptual Site SUBJECT: Designing Environments | 1st Year Design Introduction


This area has become a barren wasteland since the grip of the 21st Century Global Warming epidemic took hold of our planet. It is now the year 2500 and Earth has settled into a new natural equilibrium - much has changed and as its inhabitants have evolved along with it so to has our built responses to how we interact with our new world. Rising from the now windswept plain of a dried lake, the structures gesture toward the areas fertile, water-filled past while providing a vantage point to which the new environment can be encountered.

Distribution: Out from core functions.

A collection of spaces that radiate from the central hearth providing an ideal environment for creative expression, whilst embracing the naturalistic atmosphere, eco-concious and welcoming sense of community that defines CERES. Derived on three main axis - each space is distributed with relationship to the overall function - a sculptors hearth providing a socially and environmentally concious place for creative exploration and interaction.
