Important factors to consider when selecting diamond engagement rings
Selecting an engagement ring is a serious business as your fiancÊe is expected to wear it for the rest of her life and that is the gift she will proudly show to all her friends and relatives. It is better to consult the bride before buying the engagement ring so that she is not disappointed with the choice you had made. It is preferable that you discuss the style, stones and budget limits with the bride and take her along when shopping for the engagement ring. Of course, the fact remains that some men would want to shop alone for the engagement ring in order to surprise his lady. If you shop alone and not sure what style she would prefer, buy just the stone, make an appointment with a jeweler to return later for a setting. After you lady accepts the proposal, go back and choose a setting together. You can also buy a ready-made engagement ring, once you have discussed styles with your sweetheart. The price per half carat of a quality diamond will depend on several factors, including the diamond's size. Diamonds that are comparatively rare will understandably be more costly. Of course, the size of an engagement ring does matter a lot. But you need to remember that a big diamond need not necessarily mean it is going to be more valuable than a small size diamond. The clarity, color, and cut of a diamond are factors that will determine the value of an engagement ring. You need to know the four critical factors known as the 4Cs when you go shopping for the engagement ring. As you may be aware, a carat is a measure of the weight of a diamond. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams. Generally speaking, the higher the carat of a diamond, the more expensive it is expected to be. Clarity, as the word indicates, refers to the purity of a diamond when viewed on the inside. A diamond may have Inclusions such as mineral deposits, irregular crystals, flaws or cracks. A Flawless diamond has no impurities at all while an Included diamond has impurities that are visible even to the naked eye. A flawless diamond is the obviously the most expensive. Color refers to the internal color of a diamond. Color is graded from all colors to near colorless to light yellow to very light Yellow. A colorless diamond, like a flawless diamond, is rare and is the most valuable. The cut of a diamond denotes the arrangement of its facets, its finish and proportions. The cut of a diamond is what gives a diamond its sparkle and brilliance. Determining an ideal cut involves complex mathematics. Suffice it to know that an ideal cut diamond is worth more than a diamond that is cut too deep or too shallow. When you're shopping for an engagement ring, you have to keep your girl’s preferences in mind. If size is what matters to her, then go for the biggest stone you can afford. However, if overall quality is important to her, then a smaller stone, with better clarity, color and cut should be the choice. If your girl has rather wide and short fingers, a medium sized ring with a large diamond can look gorgeous. If she has small fingers that are thin and delicate, then stick to small stones. Again, the choice of style is one of personal preference. Whatever the style, you should try to keep it simple so that the ring does not dominate the entire hand.
