My First Gaming Experience With Resident Evil 4
My first gaming experience with Resident Evil 4 was in May 2006. Although I had first 3 games under the old Play Station, this was the first horror and CG game I ever completed on Play Station 2. But the process was not easy as my character Leon Scott Kennedy got killed 64 times before finally winning the game. The reason why I persevered with it rather than its predecessors was because compared to those, the controls were much easier to operate. Moreover I was operating from Leon's look over his shoulder perspective. The story marked Leon's return 6 years after his Resident Evil 2 encounters. This time he was no longer the police cadet but a government agent directly under US President. But like his last mission, he was to rescue the President's kidnapped daughter Ashley Graham.
His mission took him to the El Pasco - a rural village of Spain. What started out as a routine venture ended in a violent clash with the villagers who suddenly became very aggressive. Leon survives but his 2 local police escorts were killed.
He later learnt from his helpdesk support Ingrid Hunnigan that those villagers were part of the newly formed Los Illuminados cult spearheaded by Salazar and Osmand Saddler - 2 powerful overlords after they got infected with Las Plagas virus.
The virus apparently killed their former selves and took over their bodies, hence increasing their aggression and speed. Ashley was locked up in their church. Initially Leon started out with just a handgun, 10 bullets and combat knife. But as the game progresses and provided if you survive longer, you get to earn money, meet the merchant and buy or upgrade to more powerful weapons like semi-automatic rifle, machine pistol, mine thrower and even rocket launcher. Upon completing the game, you not only got to keep the weapons but get new ones should you decide to play again. There will also be 3 bonus games unlocked.
Leon is not entirely alone in this mission even though he is the main character. Besides the merchant, he meets Ada Wong whom he also encountered in the second game and local ex-cop Luis Sera. Also upon rescuing Ashley, he needs to co-ordinate with her in overcoming both enemies and certain obstacles to progress further. The first stage is the village I already mentioned. Once Leon managed to defeat village chief who is also a formidable foe, he and Ashley will move to Castle where they will face the evil cult monks, more aggressive creatures, deadlier obstacles and Overlord Salazar.
The final stage will be the military base on an isolated island. Rod and crossbow welding commandos as well as gatling gun sub-bosses JJ formed the bulk of enemies. Other than that, Leon will face his ex-comrade now turned traitor Jack Krauser and Osmand Saddler in the final showdown. Having said that, Resident Evil 4 is certainly among the best games I ever played. The story, music and action scenes were great and so were the bonus games.
Resident Evil 6 is set to be among the best Resident Evil games to break new records. Find out more here.
