Jumeirah Archaeological Site

The Grand Mosque

This is one of the most significant archaeological sites in the United Arab Emirates and is brimming with a unique history. With origins in the sixth century AD, the settlement was once a caravan stop on a route linking Iraq and Oman and is interesting in that it spans the pre-Islamic and Islamic eras.

Artistic stained glass, marble floors, 45 small domes and nine large ones are just a few of the attributes that gives The Grand Mosque it striking appeal with a famous design. This is Dubai’s centre of worship and most important monument, not to mention the structure boasts being one of the world’s largest and stylish mosques. Like all Dubai mosques, except the Jumeirah Mosque, it’s off limits to non-Muslims. However, non-Muslims can admire the pure beauty of the palace-like style. In the evening the The Grand Mosque illuminates in the colourful sun-set, creating a picture perfect silhouette that lights up the night sky.

Pottery, tools, coins and other important traditional items were unearthed here. Whilst at the site, visit Al Fahidi Fort, which houses the Dubai Museum. Throughout time this historic and versatile building has served as a palace, garrison and prison.
