SPECIAL THANKS TO “KHETKHET” ARMADA FOR LETTING ME USE HER PHOTO IN THIS SPREAD.
AS A GRAPHICDESIGNER I was never taught what I should or should not do in terms of graphic design. I never was given formal training. All that I did really, to fine tune my craft, was post my works online and did research on history’s most prominent Graphic Designers. To name a few of my idols: Massimo Vignelli, Wim Crouwel, & Milton Glaser. Most of them are Modernists. I love Modernism, I would love to have lived in the period if given the chance. I have a few more idols in mind but these are the certain few that inspire me and my works.
RECEIVING CRITIQUES I value any person’s opinions about my works. Everyone has their own brand or take on things around them. If ever I received any negative remarks, I would take them as motivators for me to do better next time. That being, I also welcome competition. It’s a catalyst for creativity and originality. Majority of my works are products of competitiveness. It sounds sad in a way but at least I know I’m being pushed to go out of my norms.

“..I EVEN CAME TO A POINT WHEREIN I BEGAN TO CARE MUCH AND MUCH MORE ABOUT THE DESIGN..”
WHY WANN? Well, back in 2007 when I went to class Rachel (Mutia) started calling me “WANN”. I asked, “Why WANN?” and then she said that she knew two guys named Jae / Jay and that the other guy she dubbed as JaeDos / JayDos (not really sure how the other guy’s name was spelled, so yeah). So history was made, I began using the name WANN and in turn I gave Rachel the name “Racheese / Rachieese / Cheese”.
THE OBSESSION WITH TYPE X DESIGN My obsession for type and design started way back in 2003. I was a sophomore back then in high school. We had a computer class during that time and we were taught how to do HTML or Websites generated from HTML codes using the notepad. I was never that in to doing websites, but being as it may, I had to do them because it was a requirement and I needed to do them because I’d fail if I didn’t do so. So the endless hours of memorizing and understanding how HTML codes worked became a passion rather than a task. I even came to a point in which I began to care much and much more about the design before function. I began downloading fonts and web graphics for my works and I also began memorizing HEX codes for colors. Up to this day, I still laugh about whenever I remember those amatuer days of HTML coding.
DESIGNER JAESARR DE GUZMAN MODEL YNA “YNYN” ANGELICA M. CED
THIS IS THE INITIAL PIECE I DID FOR THIS SERIES. I MADE THIS ON AUGUST 11TH 2009 AND THIS WAS THE VERY FIRST PIECE OF ARTWORK I DID FOR THIS COFFEEBOOK.
GEEKCHIC (“SHEEK” NOT CHICK). I DID THIS VARIANT BECAUSE I FOR ONE
THOUGHT SHE LOOKED GOOD WEARING A PAIR OF RAY BAN EYEGLASSES.
Sporty . THIS VARIANT WAS MADE BECAUSE I KNOW
YNA’S A SPORTY GIRL AND SHE’S IN TO ACTIVITIES SUCH AS BIKING, TAE KWON DO, & DANCING.
I MADE THIS HIPPIE / 60’S CHICK VARIANT BECAUSE YNA’S VERY OPEN TO TRY MANY THINGS AND SHE WOULD MOST RATHER HAVE PEACE THAN TURMOIL SURROUND HER.
THE TEXT ON THE BACKGROUND SAYS: “WHAT I ONCE CONSIDERED TO BE FATE, HAS NOW TURNED INTO HATE. I’M SORRY IT’S BEEN DIFFICULT FOR ME TO CHANGE BACK TO MY OLD SELF.”
