Our Universal Racing Radiators are commonly used in Pavement Late Model, Road Racing, Drag Racing, OffRoad Racing, and Hot-Rod installations - any application where high performance cooling is a must. These radiators are excellent, general purpose radiators capable of cooling up to 1000hp depending on the vehicle application and use. They are versatile because of the 2 rows of 1” tubes and medium fin density. The inlet accepts our -20 AN port universal adapter to suit your top hose connection and comes standard with a 1¾” outlet. Available in single pass or double pass, open and closed system, suitable to accept optional fans on our mounts or shrouds, single or dual fans depending on the application.

Lightweight racing radiators Technology we originally developed in NASCAR®, our Heat Exchanger Radiators utilize the engine coolant to cool the engine oil. These radiators are commonly used in Pavement Late Model, Road Racing, Drag Racing, Off-Road Racing, and Hot-Rod installations - any application where high performance cooling AND engine oil cooling is a must. As standard, these radiators utilize our 10-plate heat exchanger core and are configured as double-pass. This flow path will cool the water across the top pass, cool the oil, then cool the water again through the bottom pass before returning to the engine. Core construction, inlet and outlet configuration and sizes are the same as our Universal Racing Radiators.

C&R Racing offers a lightweight version of their double-pass and heat exchanger universal radiators. The benefit of the new 36mm core technology is more rows of tubes and fins in the same height, thus allowing use of a thinner core which improves air-flow through the core. Cores are still furnace brazed, no epoxy, and can withstand greater pressure than the 56mm 2-row cores in our standard radiators. With a thinner profile, only 2 3/16” wide, this radiator will reduce weight significantly! Better yet, use this radiator with our Pressurized Water Kit for optimal cooling! C&R Racing, being the leader in race cooling technology, has brought circle track racers the same pressure cooling system technology that Formula One, Indy Car and NASCAR® Sprint Cup, Nationwide & Truck series have been using for years. The radiator utilizes a specially developed 36mm core that will withstand higher pressure race environments. While this new core is thinner, it will outperform conventional two row cores and it weighs less. Our LW radiator saves over 6 lbs of nose weight (wet) and will cool more efficiently than any of our competitor’s thicker radiators. With the C&R pressurized cooling system, the engine can safely operate at higher temperatures, for a longer period of time. On a stock car, more tape can be applied to the grill opening also making it more aerodynamic. By utilizing the functionality of the air spring in the pressure can, there is lesser chance of overheating in case of rubber and oil dry build-up, running a leaner fuel mixture or a long caution flag. You can run leaner for power and not be in the danger zone of overheating. As an example, most NASCAR teams will run cooling system pressures as high as 60 psi on short and intermediate tracks and will race all day with temps at 265°. With today’s technology, a pressurized cooling system is more efficient and more failsafe than the customary closed cooling systems that have been around for the last 80 years. The Pressurized Water Kit works with all of our lightweight radiators.

Our engineers are up to the challenge to help you with any cooling system solution you may need. C&R is the primary supplier of cooling systems in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup, Nationwide, Camping World series, as well as GrandAm, Off-Road, and Short Track. Every track that these cars race on requires a different type of cooling package. C&R works with each team’s engineering staff to achieve the most efficient radiator for each track application. Teams have come to rely on C&R for the latest in cooling technology and unsurpassed customer service. C&R Racing uses several core manufacturers, both domestic and European, to ensure the highest quality for our high performance radiators. Depending on application we will design a cooling package with the optimum tube size, tube style, tube spacing, pressure rating and fin density core to get the most cooling for available water and air flow. 9 Single and Double Pass Radiators

Single Pass

This refers to the number of times the coolant “passes” thru the core. With a single pass, coolant enters into either tank and makes one pass thru the core and then into the other tank.

Double Pass

In a double pass (or 2 pass), both the inlet and outlet are located in the same tank. There is an internal baffle that separates the two tanks. Hot coolant enters in and is routed thru 1/2 the core and then routed into the other 1/2 and returns to the other section of the tank. This allows the coolant to turbulate in the core, allowing more of the coolant to come in contact with the tubes and transfer heat. Double passing is also used for packaging. GM LS engine applications typically favor the passenger side hose inlet and outlet. This places both radiator hoses on the passenger side, freeing up space for air intakes, superchargers, etc.

Open Vs. Closed An “open” system means the radiator has a radiator filler neck and cap built into it. A “closed” system means the radiator does not have a radiator filler neck and cap on it. Open system

“Closed” systems typically are used when the radiator is not the highest point in the coolant system. These systems will have a remote mounted surge tank that will have a radiator cap. The radiator will have a small hose mounted at the highest point running into the surge tank and another larger hose from the bottom of the surge tank to the suction side of the water pump. This forces any air to the surge tank while the engine is running. Closed System Cross Flow Vs. Down Flow

Cross Flow

A down flow radiator will have upper and lower thanks. The coolant will flow into the upper and down to the lower tank. A cross flow radiator will enter on the side tank and cross flow across to the other tank. It really comes down to packaging whether a down flow or cross flow will be used. Down Flow

Engine Oil Cooling C&R Racing utilizes many different engine oil coolers. The most common is our 10 plate internal oil cooler that we mount inside a radiator. This is very effective in cooling the oil and packages very well. This type of oil cooler has NASCAR and dirt late model roots and has proven extremely effective in our GM LS engine module packages.

Coolers - Oil/Air/Power Steering

C&R’s External Heat Exchangers offer an option to having the heat exchanger in the tank of the radiators. Oftentimes packaging doesn’t allow, so this design gives the ability to place for convenience of plumbing and out of harm’s way. These units are commonly found in sports car, off-road, and high performance street rod installation. The addition of “plates in the stack” increases the oil cooling. 40-00002

The heat exchanger is typically plumbed in-line between the rad and the pump to cool the oil with the coldest water in the system. While custom water plumbing connections are available, we stock 10, 13, 18, and 22 plate with 1¾” water in and out and 13 plate with 1½” in and out. We supply the oil line connections with -12AN adapters that can be removed should you require a reducer expander.

C&R Racing introduces an innovative inline power steering cooler that mounts in the lower radiator hose. Utilizing a 5 plate aluminum oil cooler these will allow you to cool, often overlooked, power steering fluid. Easy installation in the lower hose between the radiator and suction side of the water pump with 6 AN males for mounting to the low pressure side (return) of the power steering pump. The Oil Filter Bypass Valve Assembly was designed by C&R to adjust oil temperature when using the C&R Oil to Water Heat Exchanger. The oil cooler duct is taped off to adjust temperatures when using an air to oil cooler; this is not possible with an oil to water heat exchanger. The C&R designed bypass valve adjusts the oil temperature in the oil to water heat exchanger as well as any other type of oil cooler. The bypass valve diverts oil around the oil cooler without increasing back pressure. The CNC precision machined C&R bypass valve has no restrictions allowing 5%, 10%, or even 100% bypass capabilities. The bypass valve comes standard with -12 AN male fittings and is all-aluminum.

Again, C&R leads the industry in ingenuity, we’ve incorporated the Oil Cooler Bypass Valve into the Remote Oil Filter Mount! You gain the benefits of both products all-in-one. This unit really cleans up the engine bay and provides a central point to control your oil system.

Using a surge can, closed system cooling system is the optimum way to ensure unwanted air is constantly bled. This allows a remote filling location, utilizing our billet neck, and both the radiator and engine will bleed back to the top of the can. You’ll circulate the system while filling the can to 1/2 to 2/3 full, providing an “air-spring” in the top of the can. A siphon from the bottom of the can plumbed to the suction side of the pump or lower radiator hose pulls coolant and any trapped air through the bleed lines and captures it in the can. When the system is overpressurized, the cap will lift and air pressure will release, not coolant, thereby maintaining your cooling efficiency. You can opt for a sight glass tube to monitor system coolant level and air-spring capacity. Available in small (approximately 12 oz.) or large (approximately 32 oz.), both have a mounting bracket with fixed nuts to simplify mounting to a panel or frame-rail. NOTE: Only the bleed ports on the top of the can have to be the highest point in the cooling system, not the entire can, and bleed lines should run slightly uphill and not droop in the center to ensure proper function. 73-00000

Water system heaters and cool-down circulators will only be effective when the coolant can flow directionally through the entire cooling system. Therefore, C&R Racing designed the in-line Check Valve (or flapper valve) and incorporated JiffyTite quick disconnect fittings for fast, reliable connection from the circulator hoses to the race car. Our most versatile check valve is the billet Universal Check Valve. The directional body accepts any combination of end caps and adapters to suite your installation. Simply determine top hose engine side connection, top radiator connection for end caps then which 5000 series (recommended) JiffyTite connectors you wish to use.

If you want to heat your water system then C&R’s Portable Engine Heater is your answer! This totally portable unit utilizes a self-contained diesel fired heater to handle all of your pre-heating requirements. Its 12-volt design makes it entirely independent to an external power source, providing up to 4 hours of continuous operation on a full charge. Once the unit is connected, it will gradually heat water in the race car to a temperature of approximately 200°F. The unit will then maintain this temperature until the unit is switched off and disconnected. TECH TIP: Will anti-freeze lower my water temperature? No. This is a common misconception, Anti-freeze will raise the boiling point of water but will also effect the heat transfer capabilities of water, which will raise temperature slightly. As of now, nothing cools your engine better than plain water. How about all of the coolant additives advertised to lower water temperatures. Does any of that work? We have tested most everything on the market and have yet to find anything that works. We test these products in climate controlled wind tunnels and on the race track using high tech data acquisitions to monitor performance. At this point plain water is the best cooling agent and we haven’t found anything to improve it! The only additive we recommend is an anti-rust type of water conditioner like Conklin’s Water Conditioner or NEO’s Keep Cool. It will lubricate water pump seals and guard against corrosion in your system.

21 Gold Reflective Foil The Gold Reflective Film is an aerospace material capable of reflecting 78% of all radiant heat with continuous operating temperatures of 450 degrees centigrade. The material is metalized polyamide polymer laminated glass cloth with a high temperature pressure sensitive adhesive. The film is lightweight at only 5oz per square yard, and is easy to apply and remove. Typical applications include; but are not limited to, engine covers, side pods, suspension, under trays/floors, seat bottoms, fire walls and bulkheads. The minimum air gap to heat source is just 1mm. CR1 Transmission • Center Support – Stabilizes the input and counter shafts keeping them from flexing and moving out of alignment, allowing gears to optimal levels. • New Shifter Design – Better quality materials, detail design of selector rails and careful attention to shift patterns eliminates miss shifts during gear changes with the new hand set. • Flexible – The design allows for installation of the car’s shifter on either the left or right side of the transmission. • Safer – The option to locate the shifter on either the left or right side of the transmission allows for installation of the driver’s seat further from the left door. Updated Product Features • The CR1V2 allows for center shifter mounting required by the NASCAR CoT (Car of Tomorrow). • Internal Three Rail Top Cover design allows for cleaner and more precise shifting. • The design allows current CR1 customers to up-fit to the CR1V2, which retains the CR1 gear package and adds the new three-rail shifter. • The CR1V2 is the logical platform for any NASCAR team because it allows for upgrading to the ultimate NASCAR gearbox, the CR2 (information on this transmission package is available separately).

CR2C Gearbox Specification C&R Racing contracted Xtrac to design and supply a kit of internal gears, gearchange parts and shifter system with the aim of improving the efficiency, gearchange performance and reliability while offering a significant inertia reduction. The CR2C meets the 2008 NASCAR weight rule of 80lbs. It also has provision for adjustable ballast to ensure that the transmission is at minimum weight, regardless of gear, shifter or oiling configuration. Throughout the design of the transmission parts, the overall gearbox efficiency was considered, particularly the lubrication system, the bearing type and clearances, the seal fits and minimizing rotating inertias (27.8 lbs). Design Features: • 10-15% less rotating mass and inertia than competitors (in NASCAR). • Xtrac designed gearing, featuring KAPP ground geometry and Xtrac VAR steels, with all processes (including CNC manufacture, heat treatment and shot peening) being completed in-house for consistency, traceability and quality assurance. • Cast Aluminum maincase and billet aluminum midplate for rigidity. 80lbs transmission total mass • Optional oil pump reduces churning while dedicated spray rail and ‘through shaft’ centrifugal feed provides spray/mist lubrication. • Reduced frictional losses due to: • Reduced number of bearings; optimally positioned to maintain shaft alignment, • 2 piece mainshaft ensures the ‘nutted’ cluster shaft is isolated from external loads, and offers improved 1st to 3rd gear efficiency, • Low drag PDR seals • Quicker shifts from: • Efficient low friction linkage/mechanism, • Xtrac dog design, • Xtrac hub ground spline design. • Proven & reliable product currently racing in NASCAR Cup Series (with ballast to 80lbs – per rules). • Various lever setback options (21”/ 24”/ 26”) • 26 or 29 tooth input shafts.

Internal Rear Gear Oil Pump At only .976 lbs. this pump is the lightest pump available on the market today! It is the first and only internal rear gear oil pump that features an easily adjustable PRV (pressure relief valve) making this pump highly efficient in all situations. Just by changing the PRV spring you can adjust the flow to meet your specific needs. Whether that is restrictor plate races or short tracks; you don’t need to give up pump performance on the short tracks when you are striving for low drag on the Super Speedways. The pump also has replaceable wear plates each side of the pump gears. There is no need to discard the pump due to ingesting debris.
