LETTER FRoM THE PRESIDENT

What a joy it is to write to you this jubilee year, in which we celebrate not only the 50-year history of our mission, but its enduring beauty. For half a century, JWP has been educating the whole child in the tradition of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston and the Roman Catholic faith. Here, on our historic campus, children ages 18 months through grade 6 have learned to love themselves, love each other, and love learning. And for this great gift, which has been passed on for five decades and almost three generations now, we are filled with gratitude. We thank God for the wonderful students, committed and experienced faculty, supportive families, and generous community of benefactors and loyal alumni who continue to make this a thriving learning community. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to the Sisters of Saint Joseph who founded the schools and continue to sponsor and inspire us as educators. We are grateful for the success of our graduates. Proud of their contributions to the school communities, families, and professions they have gone on to serve, we are also humbled by the human beings they have become: exemplars of Christian values, such as compassion, forgiveness, goodness, and service, which they learned in their years here.

Thank you for the many ways in which your support and generosity have helped educate children over the last 50 years. We find not only joy, but hope in continuing that work together, with your ongoing partnership in our mission. A JWP education is a blessing. Thank you for your part in bestowing it on so many over the course of the school’s first 50 years. Because of you, we can look forward to the next 50 years with confidence and hope.

Gratefully,

anne Murphy President

gratitude “It’s been a gift to see how our children have learned gratitude. We’ve seen JWP teach the kids to not only appreciate what they have, but to appreciate what they can give or do for others, to imagine how they help make the world a better place.”

at JWP, our stuDents are our Greatest GiFts anD DeePest JoY

Coming from diverse backgrounds, they are blessed with diverse gifts, but they also share many blessings in common: ■

Loving families committed to their growth

Caring teachers who challenge and nurture them

Kind classmates eager to grow and learn with them

Often, it’s the simplest gifts that matter the most. We were reminded of that when we invited students ages 5-12 to share what they are most grateful for.

Carefully prepared and beautifully maintained multi-age classrooms provide our youngest students the freedom to explore and discover. The toddler program, for children ages 18 months to three years, supports the development of self-help skills and independence, while also advancing gross and fine motor skills, and furthering communication skills. The three-year primary curriculum, for children ages 3 through 5, builds each child’s sense of order, coordination, concentration and independence.

“There is so much going on in all the classrooms, but when you walk through the doors, you’re overwhelmed with how peaceful and structured it feels. Children are really safe but inspired to take risks and grow and learn.” — Cary Endozo and Alicia Burke, P’22

“My father who dropped me and my three older brothers off every day used to say ‘I never saw kids so happy to go to school. They’re happy going in and they’re happy going out.’ He saw and appreciated that learning was also joy at Jackson. And I see the same in my three boys a generation later” — Ann Daley, ‘83, P’19, P’21

the Values theY leaVe With

15

Kindness, mutual respect, and the dignity of each person remain at the core of all that we do. JWP students are known and cherished as individuals. Our work is built on that foundation. By teaching and living values rooted in faith, we invite children to experience the love of God, as well as the love of one another, in a supportive school community. While competent instruction and a proper learning environment unfailingly encourage students to grow, at JWP we believe that students’ close bonds with each other and with their teachers also contribute to vital intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual growth.

Hope hoPe, a christian Virtue, is our traDe

We educate children for the future, and for the repair of the world. Because the children and families who come to Jackson Walnut Park are blessed with many gifts, we prepare them to fully develop their potential in an atmosphere where high expectation, generosity, and gratitude meet. At JWP, we call each other to lives of heroic goodness. The world has a need for it. And we have the hearts and minds to inspire it.

“The school has changed our children’s lives and touched our entire family. JWP delivers on its promise of hope for our future.” — Giuliana and adrienne noriega, P’15, P’18
