DistAnce : RelaTiVe Concept Development, Summer 2018 Despite their close proximity, the Diomede Islands are socially divided by nation, time, and language. Distance : Relative intervenes to bridge this social distance by expanding users’ geographic understanding of neighbourship. The result is countless moments of ephemeral connection created through whimsy and play. As a simple waterfront trail, Distance : Relative is meant to integrate naturally into people’s everyday lives, allowing these connections to feel authentic rather than contrived. Users can choose to engage as passively or energetically as they like—the experience is equally special whether walking to work or chasing the footsteps of an invisible neighbour.

The building features stepped private garden balconies, and a community garden on the second floor terrace.

OvErgrOwtH CenTre Design Concept, Winter 2018 The OverGrowth Centre of Art and Design aims to create a positive, inspiring learning environment for those interested in art and design. The library can be used as a public workspace, a place to read a book, and a place to research. The library is outfitted with several powerful research and design computers, standing work stations, and drafting tables. The library contains many books dedicated to arts and design, including tutorials and books highlighting the basics, allowing anyone to get started. With a community garden, coffee cart, and winter art shows, The OverGrowth Centre provides a fun, safe learning environment, while also serving as a space to advance community development.
