Caecilia Andriessen

Fri 21 - Sun 23 February Piano Workshop Philip Fowke Course No. 3083 Level: All Fee: £180 If you enjoy playing the piano, suffer from nerves, yet long to perform with greater security and confidence, then this is the course for you. Bring along your favourite pieces for discussion and exploration in a relaxed, informal environment. There is no obligation to perform any piece in full; it may be that you only wish to tackle a few bars at a time. The general standard is from about Grade 5 upwards, though this does not preclude those of a humbler ability. The emphasis is on learning with enjoyment, sharing difficulties with others, and discovering comfortable, practical ways to overcome musical and technical problems. Participants are encouraged to bring along any duets they may have. These have proved to be very popular and can greatly contribute to the musical and performing experience of the weekend.

Fri 9 - Sun 11 May The Pianist Within Elena Riu Course No. 3091 Level: All Fee: £180 Work with extraordinary Venezuelan pianist, Elena Riu, who will gently lead you through whichever repertoire you choose to bring, although as Elena is a specialist on Spanish and South American composers, this repertoire is particularly encouraged. You will be specifically working on the use of tone production and harmonic colour to enlarge your emotional vocabulary. Part of the weekend will focus on reducing performance anxiety, integrating some simple yoga, relaxation and visualisation techniques to improve your playing and benefit the ‘whole person’. Fri 30 May - Sun 1 June Pianos for All Caecilia Andriessen Course No. 3093 Level: Intermediate Fee: £180 Are you an amateur pianist who can play Bach’s Inventions and Haydn’s Sonatas? Would you like to play in an ensemble with other pianists, just like string players do in a string quartet? Then join “Pianos for All”! We play music from the 17th to the 21st centuries, music that was either composed for two or more pianos, or that has been adapted for a piano group. The pieces vary in difficulty and style but you will be sent two in advance to allow you to prepare them before you

arrive. We will also sight read less difficult pieces during the weekend. Participants of all ages are welcome who would like to play as a group, as this joyous weekend provides the opportunity for piano playing in groups of one, two, three and four pianos. Fri 20 - Sun 22 June Advanced Piano Workshop Julian Jacobson Course No. 3096 Level: Advanced Fee: £180 A weekend to explore in depth how to acquire that elusive sense of security in your playing, and how to develop expression that is both faithful to the composer but personal to you. We will be covering technical matters such as tone production, creative pedalling, a genuinely musical yet practical choice of fingeringstructural and harmonic understanding, imaginative voicing and colouring will be covered, but no topic is offlimits if it contributes to a genuinely living and coherent performance. Bring an open mind together with whatever piece or pieces, of any shape or size, you are working on.
