automatically unlocks the door so those who are still inside can leave. In these cases, slipping a piece of paper through the crack in the door, near the top, will allow you to trigger the motion detector and unlock the door from the outside. Windows and transoms (hinged windows atop doors or other windows) can also provide easy routes into buildings; the only real disadvantage to coming in through the window or over the transom rather than through a door is that, if you're caught, it's significantly harder to claim you didn't realize you were trespassing. But otherwise windows are almost as easily accessible as doors. Sometimes outside windows are left completely ajar after hours, but more commonly you'll find a window that's been left open just a crack, and be able to open it up to person size yourself. Always take a good look at what's on the other side of the window before you lower yourself in or hoist yourself through: it's possible the room on the other side might be occupied, alarmed or under surveillance. If you're travelling with a group, it normally makes sense for only one person to go in through the window and to then open a door for the rest of the group, as this is considerably less suspicious.
