WGSN  is  a  great  website  for  the  fashion   industry  because  of  its  usefulness,  accuracy,   and  relevancy  to  the  fast  paste  ever  changing   industry.  With  in  this  site  you’re  able  to  take  a   look  at  New  Yorks  fashion  week  and  prep  for  an   upcoming  collec:on  with  the  Latest  Inspira:on   &  Design  tab.

Entry  #1  WGSN  –  January  29,  2013   Summary  &  Response  to  Ar:cle      I  read  an  ar:cle  about  H&M’s  sales  dropping  in  the  month  of   March.  The  reason  for  this  12%  sale  drop  is  the  con:nued  cold   weather.  I  found  that  interes:ng  because  it  just  shows  the  true  circle   of  life  and  how  all  things  are  connected  in  some  way.  I  would  never   think  that  mother  nature  would  affect  H&M  sales  but  it  does.  I  don’t   think  they  have  much  to  worry  about,  with  Beyonce  being  the  new   face  for  H&M  sales  should  rise!

Entry  #2  History  –  February  5,  2013        The  current  fashion  trend  draws  influence  from  the   1940’s.  The  trend  consist  of  embellishments,  feminine   skirt  suit,  ankle  maxi  coats,  high  necklines,  tailored   waisted  silhoueXes,  and  longer-‐lengths.

Entry  #2  History  –  February  5,  2013

Big  elements  taking  from  the  past:   •  Two  piece  suits   •  Tweed  (fabric)   •  Below-‐knee  fit  –  and-‐flare  dress     Current  designers  has  made  the  trend  more   wearable,  light  weight,  smoother  textures,  and   an  unstructured  shape.   9

Entry  #3  CosmeDcs  –  February  12,  2013      Scien:st  Pollock  introduces  a  new  water-‐free  skin  care

line.  He  believes  that  water  in  products  “relied  upon  too   heavily  in  skin-‐care  formula:ons,  and  ul:mately  reduces   product  efficacy.”  He  decided  to  subs:tute  water  with   Hyaluronix,  its  found  in  cells  from  the  human  body.  It’s   reported  to  “draw  moisture  from  the  air.”  His  product  is   es:mated  to  generate  5-‐8  million  dollars  between  January   2013-‐14.     Artcle  link:  hXp://www.wwd.com.emils.lib.colum.edu/ beauty-‐industry-‐news/skin-‐care/beauty-‐rd-‐exec-‐launches-‐ line-‐6591024?module=beauty-‐industry-‐news-‐skin-‐care-‐ page-‐2   10

Entry  #4  Mens  trend  –  February  19,  2013     •  Upscale  Street  Wear

•  I  love  the  trend.  I  think  that   it  is  at  its  peek  right  now,  I   don’t  see  it  going  away.  If   anything  just  for  the   summer  but  will  return  for   fall/winter.

Entry  #5  New  Show/  Movie  –  February  26,  2013   The  New  Normal   The  new  TV  series  did  not  necessary  begin  any  new  trends  but   it  definitely  followed  them.  There  were  a  lot  of  loud  colors  and   even  bold  prints.  They  were  spring  ready,  although  the  show   premiered  way  before  spring.  The  cast  members  were  dressed   playful  at  :mes  but  also  sophis:cated.  Sophis:ca:on  is  very   important,  pulling  off  the  more  “grown-‐up”  look  is  not  easy.   Especially  when  trying  to  a  track  all  types  of  viewers.

Entry  #6  Fabric  Swatches  –  March  5,  2013   •  Tweed  –  unfinished  woolen  fabric,  made  up  with   either  plain  or  trill  weave.

•  CoXon  –  sop  fluffy  staple  fiber,  pure  cellulose

•  Silk  –  natural  protein  fiber   14

Entry  #6  Fabric  Swatches  –  March  5,  2013   Designers  delivered  a  rainbow  of  bright-‐hued  toppers  for  fall.

15

Entry  #7  Dos/Don’ts  –  March  12,  2013

The  paXerns  and  colors  are  too  similar   to  wear  together.  Although  bold  prints   and  paXerns  are  a  current  trend,   horizontal  and  ver:cal  stripes  together   in  one  ensemble  is  definitely  a  “don’t”,   the  shades  of  grey’s  are  also  off.

The  vibrant  color  and  cool  paXern   makes  this  a  “do”  but  the  garment   could  use  some  altera:on  and   tailoring  to  her  body.  It  looks  like  an   “accident”  wai:ng  to  happpen.

16

Entry  #7  Dos/Don’ts  –  March  12,  2013

What  makes  this  a  “don’t”  is  the   choice  to  wear  a  two  piece  suit   together  made  with  this  fabric.  One   should  be  worn  without  the  other,   there's  no  balance  with  the  two   together  and  it  is  out  of  season.

Although  it’s  getng  warm  out   guys  should  not  roll  there  jeans   into  mini  capris,  a  cuff  or  two  is   okay  but  nothing  more.

Urban  OuuiXers

H&M

Entry  #9  Visual  Displays  –  March  26,  2013

I  chose  Urban  OuuiXer  and  H&M  because   those  are  two  places  I  shop  at  frequently.  I  like   that  the  two  displays  do  not  look  like  each   other,  your  able  to  see  that  they  are  completely   two  different  stores.  Urban’s  display  is  more   youthful  and  feels  “hipper”,  more  for  the   younger  genera:on.  Where  as  H&M  is  more   sophis:cated  and  clean  cut,  more  business   savvy.   20

Entry  #10  Designer  Report–April  9,  2013   Donatella  Versace     Ready-‐to-‐Wear  -‐   Runway  CollecDon   -‐  Men   Fall  /  Winter  2012   Donatella  is  one  of  my  favorite  designers,  so  I   already  knew  who  I  was  going  to  pick.  I  like  this   par:cular  jacket  because  it  feels  like  street  wear   meets  runway.  I  love  the  black  leather  and  the   gold  emeralds,  along  with  the  fur  collar.     I  could  see  this  jacket  in  Zara.  With  the  design   and  construc:on  of  the  garment  it  looks  similar   to  pieces  that  they  currently  have  on  the  sales   floor.       21
