MessagefromCEO BrendaMainwaring

Iowa West Foundation learned a lot in 2022. Through Imagine Hours, we learnedhowmuchweallloveourhometowns,andwelearnedwhatyou thinkcouldmakeourcommunitiesevenbetter.Wecondensedyourideas intofourprinciples.

First,weallwanttobeincludedandappreciated.

Second, we want to have our basic needs met and also to be free fromfinancialworry

Third, we want everyone to have access to “on-ramps” that lead to personalachievements

Andfourth,wewantamenitiesthatallowustothrive,notjustsurvive.

In 2023 and beyond, Iowa West Foundation is committed to achieving outcomes that support these principles; Belonging, Financial Stability, Opportunity, and Wellbeing. Together, we will build communities where familieslovetoliveandbusinessesthrive

TheBoardofDirectorsbegan theyear-longprocesswitha lookbackandanactive listeningcampaign.The primaryshiftsinthevision statementincluded changingcommunityto communitiesandchanging "wanttolive"to"lovetolive."

IowaWestFoundation Named"Unbelievable Workplace"

Forthesecondconsecutive year,IWFwasrecognizedas an"UnbelievableWorkplace" bytheCouncilBluffs ChamberofCommerce.

Highlights

ParksandPlaygrounds

Thespringseasonsawtwo newparks/playgroundsfor familiesinCouncilBluffs, withBelles'PlayGardenat theRiver'sEdgeandthe CharlesE.LakinYMCA campusdowntown. Bothweresupportedwith $250,000and$200,000 grants,respectively.

ImagineHours

Thecommunity-wide listeningsessionsresultedin thousandsofideasand meaningfulinsightintowhat makesacommunityagreat placetolive.Guidedbythe input,theboardofdirectors craftedanewstrategicvision thatincludespeople-focused outcomesofBelonging, FinancialStability, OpportunityandWell-Being.

RailroadDays Highlights

Atime-honoredtradition,Railroad DayscontinuedinCouncilBluffs, thankstolocalhistoricmuseums andsitesinthecommunitywith thehelpofthe UnionPacific MuseumAssociationanda supportinggrantof$19,000.

SAVEthedateforRailroadDays 2023:Saturday,Sept.23rd

AletterofInquiry(thefirststepinthe grantapplicationprocess)canbe submittedanytimethroughoutthe year.Alettermustbereceivedtwo weeksbeforetheapplication deadlinesonthe15thofJanuary,May, andSeptembertobeconsideredfor thatgrantcycle.Workshopstohelp withthegrantapplicationprocessare heldthemonthbeforetheduedate. Thegrantsteamhittheroadthis summerandconductedaworkshopin ruralPottawattamieCounty.Signup forIWF'snewsletterforinformationon futureworkshops.

BLinkWi-Fi

Theendoftheyearwas acauseforcelebration, withtheeighthandfinal phaseofaccesstofree BLinkWi-FiforCouncil BluffsCommunity SchoolDistrictstudents (andresidents).Nextup fortheConsortium serviceisaccessfor LewisCentralSchool Districtfamilies.

WomenofColor LeadershipProgram

MeettheinauguralWomenof Colorleadershipprogram graduatesunderwrittenbyIowa WestFoundation.Elevennewand returningparticipantswillhave accesstoindividualized mentoringandcoachingto continuetogrowtheirskills.The programbeginsinMarch2023.

Capacity Building

Empoweringourpartners isanintegralpartofthe mission.LastDecember, over40nonprofit representativesattended "Storytelling101."A workshoponhowto effectivelysharetheir storywiththecommunity.
